Vanarama National League South
Farnborough F C v Braintree Town
Our last away trip of the year takes the Iron to play eleventh placed Farnborough F C. Last season the Boro finished in twelfth place in the VNLS on sixty six points, eight points off the play-off places.
So far this season their record is P 23 W 7 D 9 L7 GF 39 GA 40 Points 30.
At home their record is P 11 W 7 D 3 L 1 GF 24 GA 13 Points 24, which shows that at home they are stronger, as that’s where all their wins have come. The only team to beat them on their home turf this season is Worthing on 21 November. They have beaten Weston-Super-Mare three-nil, Hampton & RB three-one, Tonbridge A four-one and Dover A four-nil.
In the F A Cup this season they started with a goal less draw at Wingate & Finchley, winning the replay six-nil, butthen went out at home nil-one to Weston-Super-Mare. They fell at the first hurdle in the F A Trophy losing two-one at Slough Town.
Leading scorers this season are Taylor Maloney, Michael Folivi and Ollie Pendlebury with five goals each. Alfie Pavey had scored eight goals for them prior to his transfer to Woking.
We have already met the Boro once this season on 9 September when the two sided drew one-one. Both goals came inside the first six minutes and involved two players, Ben Mason sliding in on his opponent inside the box to concede a penalty in the second minute. Alfie Pavey stepped forward, but Jack Sims save it, but hr ball looped up kindly for Pavey to head home to head home the rebound. Mason atoned for his error four minutes later driving a home a low shot.

Our last visit to Farnborough was on 25 February 2023 when a penalty taken by Alfie Matthews sealed the points for the Iron.

We also knocked them out of the F A Trophy last season winning on penalties after the game had ended two-two.
Boro’s form is poor at present with just one win in their last seven League fixtures and that came at Aveley three weeks ago when they won four-three. Braintree like Boro meanwhile continue to be strong at home after they beat neighbours Aveley last Saturday courtesy of a Tom Blackwell heade from a corner, but performances on the road need to improve to sustain the play-off push. Another new signing this week, left back Lewis Miccio joins us from Oxford City, adding to last week’s loan arrival Devonte Aransibia from Maidstone United. Also check your social media for another incoming!
This looks like the game could go either way, here’s hoping for three points ahead of our double header with Chelmsford City to come.
