Saturday 22 April 2023
Vanarama National League South
Braintree Town v Eastbourne Borough
The last home game of the season is a play-off six pointer as eighth placed Eastbourne Borough come to the Dunmow Group Stadium.
It’s been an exciting battle for the play-off places and whoever finishes in seventh will have more points than Chippenham Town who frequented that spot last season having attained fifty nine points, which would only have you in thirteenth place in the current VNLS table.
Worthing’s Tuesday evening one-nil win against Farnborough saw them leap frog Braintree leaving them now in seventh place with seventy points.
Eastbourne have P 44 W 21 D 5 L 18 GF 72 GA 63 Points 68
The importance of this game to both sides should see a decent turn out and if the Iron win, that will ends the Sports hopes of a play-off spot.
Eastbourne are in the better form of the two sides with five wins, one draw and one defeat in their last seven games. As their record above shows, they don’t often draw, so expect a tense encounter.
They have three players in double figures for goals this season, led by Shilo Remy with fifteen, Jake Hutchinson with fourteen and Leone Gravata with ten goals.
The two sides met at Priory Lane earlier this season on 22 October 2022 and the Iron took the points with a two-one win. Kyran Clements gave the Iron an early lead before Greg Luer equalised twelve minutes later. Baris Altintop came up with the decisive finish ten minutes into the second half. The last meeting at the Dunmow Group Stadium was on 5 February 2022 and ended goal less.
Braintree’s recent form isn’t the best with four defeats, one draw and two wins in their last seven matches, but the Iron could possibly secure their play-off place on Saturday if they win Farnborough fail to beat Dover Athletic and Havant & Waterlooville lose at Oxford City. Let’s get behind the lads on Saturday and trust we don’t need to go to Slough looking for any more points!
