Vanarama National League South
Saturday 31 October 2020
Braintree Town v Hemel Hempstead Town
Hemel Hempstead Town are currently 20th in the league table, separated by a one goal difference than their hosts on zero points.
In the summer they appointed Berkhamsted manager Steve Bircham and his assistant manager Steve Bateman. They replace the released management duo of Sammy Moore and former Iron player Jack Midson.
Their results so far have seen them lose at home (1-4) to Eastbourne Borough and two defeats on the road at Slough Town (1-0) and Maidstone United (4-1). Last weekend they exited the FA Cup with a one-nil home defeat by Hampton & Richmond Borough.
The four goals they have scored in those games have come from Sadik Balarabe (2) and one each for Matt Bateman and Jake Evans.
Last season Hemel finished in 11th place on 44 points.
Top scorer in 2019/20 was Sam Ashford with 10 goals, he now plays for Crawley Town in EFL2 and Liam Nash who scored 9 goals has signed for VNLS rivals Dartford.
Former Iron midfielder Ade Cole now plays for Hemel.
Last season’s meeting at Cressing Road was on 15 February 2020 where the match ended goalless. When they met in the 2017/18 season, the Tudors took all three points. After going behind to a Phil Roberts goal in the first half, strikes from McCall and an added on time winner from Nelson-Abby completed a League double over the Iron.
However Braintree gained revenge when overcoming the Tudors in the play-offs. The game ended 0-0 after extra time with Braintree winning a tense penalty shoot-out 3-2.
George has been wheeling and dealing to bring in some new faces to freshen up the squad.
With both teams struggling for early season form a win in this game could prove pivotal in starting an upward trend for both sides.
