A very entertaining game, with Iron 3-0 up after 13 minutes. It was 4-0 at half-time. Our goals came from Cheek 2, Cox 2, Marks, Edgar, Farrell.
It was a strange day for former Iron player and Braintree resident Cliff Akurang. When he woke up this morning he was still Heybridge Swifts manager but he was sacked during the day and ended it by scoring an overhead kick goal as a late sub for Hayes & Yeading.

It's strange to think we were struggling to beat H&Y in our first season in Conference national. I realise that last night was only a friendly but it does look like only one team has advanced.

Charlie played the whole 90mins but didn,t get a chance to show what he can do as we were in total control of the game, and they created very little in attack. Thought the new keeper Haigh did well.

H&Y have definitely gone backwards but being a glass half full kind of a fella, I believe we're looking as comfortable as we've ever done as a Conference national club, the Cowley's have added another dimension to the way the team is organised. In our first season we were quite unbalanced scoring loads but caving into sides late on in games. I seem to recall a match against H&Y where we were ahead only to be well beaten by the time the full time whistle was blown. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Barrow game.

When we played Hayes n yeading in the league during our first season we beat them away during our 6 match winning streak but at home we actually couldn't even score against then as we lost 0-3 in a horror showing. Times have certainly changed!
