is it just me or does anyone else feel the boy should be given some time out on loan to improve his game?
Since he's played for us he's not really impressed me, he's got a decent passing range but spends most of his game just running around in the midfield which is good for closing players down but he's not using the ball as he can and is often rushed into a poor pass.
I think a few months on loan will help him come on leaps and bounds as he'll be get more playing time and come back and better, fitter and more experienced player.
Adam Bailey-Dennis went out on loan last season and he's come back looking superb, Reece has gone to Aveley and I'm sure he'll come back better for it so why not give young Tom a spell working on his game lower down the leagues. He'd get into most Ryman North sides from what I've seen and would be able to play his game a bit more freely at that level. It would only benefit the lad and in the long-run Braintree Town too.
Now my essay's over, feel free to disagree!

I confess that I have made some critical comments about Tom, but only to encourage him to become more like the next BQ. This season I am starting to worry that he might end up being the next Robbie Martin - someone who we all enjoy coming on as a youngster and growing up with our team. Sadly Robbie never fulfilled his potential, whilst always remaining popular, and I fear that Tom might be going the same way. Robbie's big problem was his slight build which meant he was easy to knock of the ball and I have noticed that in one-to-one situations, it is Tom who is being brushed aside.
I watch him in the warm-ups and I see great shooting and a range of skills, but in the games too often he spends most of the time running after the ball and not quite getting there. I am convinced that there is the potential to be a really good mid-field player there and I hope Rod and Keith agree and are willing to work with him. It may well be that an loan deal might be the toughening up he clearly needs. Just as we supported Robbie, we will support him, but there is a time in every young footballer's life when they personally have to put in that extra effort to move to a higher level.

It's so refreshing to read constructive posts like these. So often, one goes to other club's sites (soapbox comes to mind) to find them full of vindictive dross.
Good luck to young Tom, he is clearly in good hands at Cressing Road.
GL to the lads today, I'm sure Eastleigh will give us a tough game.

It works for him & us if Brad starts the game & Tom is on the bench as a back up. He is still very young & I agree he is not good enough for the starting 11 because his distribution of the ball is not up to scratch, especially against the tougher teams in our league. But if he goes out on loan, who will cover Brad when he is injured? Comparing him to Robbie Martin is just comparing chalk & cheese
