super result & a good controlled performance. Three first half goals from Bailey-Dennis, Lechmere & Marks. Second half we did not need to bust a gut as Farnborough although looking sharp up front rarely threatened McDonald's goal.

A great result and a very good performance. ;D The first half we played really well and passed the ball well and at times easily got through their defence and in the second half, we controlled the ball really well and never really looked like conceding. ;D
Well done Braintree. Same again Tuesday please. ;D

The best thing was that it was a very good all-round team performance and difficult to pick out any individual. However, it was wonderful to see BQ back to full fitness and I did not think he had the legs to go from box to box, but he clearly has. I had been impressed with our passing ability at the back during the friendlies and it was, perhaps, a bit disappointing that we went back to the long ball, particularly in the second half. The substitutes showed what a strong quad we are going to have for this season. If we gain confidence from this win and start playing the ball around, the potential is there for one of our best starts to a season for a while, but we must not get carried away (Farnborough did look like they were still a team from a league below us).

Very good performance and enjoyable watching first half. Second half did what was needed to secure the points, this team looks to have a nice balance and attacking threat from all areas.
I trust scoring three goals will for now stop the panicing that went on in some quarters when we were not scoring threes, fours and fives in pre season.
Congratulations to Rod and the team on a good day, sterner challenges lie ahead.

A very good result for your boys. On paper Farnborough have a very good and expensive team so to smash them 3-0 is very impressive even if you shouldn't read too much into opening day results.

Great first half performance against a Farnborough squad that looked good on paper but fairly average on grass.
Davis did well to win a corner which Lechmere swung in for ABD to power a header home from on the penalty spot above the man on the post. Awful marking but a great header to score from there.
The second came on 25 mins when from a back pass from their woeful centrehalf James Smith their keeper suddenly decided he was a footballer and as Marksy closed him down he rolled the ball sideways back to Smith but Lechmere was alert and nipped in before rolling it across for Marksy to score an open goal from a yard out
The third came five minutes before half time, Danny Green beat a couple of players and when his run came to an end the ball found Lechmere who cut inside the full back and smashed the ball into the roof of the net.
Green could have added a fourth when thru one-on-one before half time, Marksy had a good effort just after the restart and Brad, Jonesy and Green all had decent efforts in the second half.
Farnborough kept lumping long balls trying to get their nippy forwards in but ABD and Paine dealt with them comfortably and Nicky Symons did a great job mopping up in front of the back four. Farnborough obviously had a plan to try and stop Brad playing because they clattered him at every opportunity and they needless left their boot in a couple of times but by then it was probably more frustration that malice.
The whole team played well today, from Nathan who had very little to do in all honesty thru the back four, Symo, the midfield four and Marksy led the line well. In Lechmere and Green we have wingers who can stretch sides and beat players and with the likes of Bryant and Guy on the bench we have the option to go two-up if needed.

I thought it was a good days work, I thought that the report by Farnborough was reasonably un-biased, the visitors for all the pre game hype were quickly brought down to size one young Adam headed in, a great defenders goal powering over the whole gaggle of people in the box. With the initial goal in the back of the net, the confidence grew and the Iron settled. Good passing and football played on the ground kept the visitors pegged back for periods and I thought our back four were gelling well. Midfield needs a bit of work and the front men will settle once an established pairing up front get going. Man of the Match: Sam Lechmere - some delightful foot work and an excellent effort for his goal.
In conclusion we could have doubled the score if we had substituted earlier but we seem to have plenty of ammo in the locker!! Well to Rod and the whole team.

All Iron fans that I spoke to yesterday, thought the article about Alex was spot on. Well done and keep up the good work. For your info PF of the "Soapbox" is also quoting your input with regard to the Connie South players ins and outs you started some time ago.
