lowestoft 1 braintree 0
Jamie Forshaw struck eight minutes from the end to settle an absorbing pre season friendly. Jack marsdens excellent ball over the top picked out Forshaws run and from 20 yards he drilled the ball past Braintrees replacement keeper Ollie Sanders. Ryman Premier Division newcomers Lowestoft Town proved the equals of Blue Square Bet South Braintree throughout a closely fought encounter. Goalmouth chances were in short supply as two solid defences coped with everything thrown at them. In the first half a 35 yard free kick from Lowestofts Adam Smith was well held by Braintree keeper Nathan Macdonald. At the other end Andy Reynolds parried Mark Jones blistering drive. Entertainment 4 star.

What sort of team(s) did we put out? How did the new signings perform.

thought is was a reasonable first half for us. Jamie Guy had to go off injured early on & Louis Riddle moved from the left to up front & looked good. Reece Harris replaced Guy. Second half was drab & we never really looked like scoring & for me Lowestoft deserved the win. But it was just a friendly after all. My Braintree man of the match by a mile - Reece Harris I did not know who the players were apart from Macdonald, Riddle, Jones, Harris, Guy, Martin & Bailey-Dennis. None of those unknowns caught my eye formy first friendly this time round. Of the knowns, Macdonald, Riddle & Harris looked good. Guy looked promising for the short while he was on the pitch. £10 to get in, £8 for concessions. Seemed rather steep to me. The lady on the gate denied it was fiancing her new merc. lol

He said its our club and we can charge what we want. What a wonderful way to treat the fans. What did you expect the director to say.... If the cost of admission was a serious issue with you then perhaps you should have taken steps to ascertain this prior to setting out for Lowestoft.... Like visiting the Officia Lowestoft Website- Admission Prices 2010/11 First Team Adults - £10.00 Student & OAP - £8.00 Child (U16) - £4.00 Reserve and Youth Adult £3.00 OAP £2.00 Child £1.00 Cup Matches. Thats for league fixtures though peter. Friendlies are normally cheaper unless its big league club.

Rob has a point, all of our home friendlies are priced below the normal league games and thats fairly well par for the course across the board unless you are hosting a massive 'cannot miss' game (like the Ladies game v Arsenal hinthint!). I've made the decision not to go to Stevenage tomorrow night because they are charging us canaries £18 for a friendly

At this level, anything equal or above £10 is expensive, unless you have a big club coming down to play.
Dave out of interest how much is it for the ladies game against Arsenal?

If I had experienced a journey of 80 miles/2 hours to see my team lose to lower league opposition in a pre-season friendly and get charged £10 for the privilege then perhaps I too may feel somewhat peeved....

Thats for league fixtures though peter. Friendlies are normally cheaper unless its big league club. The website clearly states that these prices cover admission to "First Team Games" for season 2010/11. Iron4ever assumed, wrongly, that some other scale of charges applied to pre-season friendly games....

Have you got a keeper yet and how's life with all those Korean trialists? I heard they were also playing for Bishop's Stortford. A similar standard and comparable ambitions I suppose.
Don't worry, Rod'll be releasing one or two shortly so there's bound to be a few players Glenn can sign.

foster, most clubs do reduce prices though. It's kind of expected really isnt it.
The Koreans were meant to be good werent they? And what happened to Nicky Eyre, is he still sat on the Chelmsford bench or has he moved on?

My point was that rather than assume that prices would be reduced, if it mattered that much to iron4ever he should have done his homework before travelling rather than make the (incorrect) assumption....

Don't worry, Rod'll be releasing one or two shortly so there's bound to be a few players Glenn can sign. The Koreans were very skilful. Mr Eyre is one of two or three goalkeepers currently trialing with the club. I'm sure that we would be pleased to give any player a trial, strangelybrown, regardless of their previous club. Many thanks for your interest in and concern for my club, strangelybrown....

I hear that the players at Hamilton Academicals are all thick as two short planks....and as for those at Queen of the South.... PF = 22 carat plonka. Hamilton Academicals so named as they were formed at Hamilton Academy. see here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamilton_Academical_F.C. Chelmsford City so named because the Club assumed that after the elevation of the Towns Parish Church to Cathedral status (circa 1926),then this made Chelmsford a City. As most people would know, It's only the Monarchy which can grant City status to a town. A decision which suggests the authors must have been about as thick as a single short plank and is still happily being parroted by the chavs. Call yourself Queens by all means as that is just a name like United or Villa and not a misrepresentation of the Towns real status.

Getting to the stage with Mr Foster that I think its worth banning him, he adds nothing to the conversations and is frankly annoying.
As for the 'City' debate, my understanding of it was that when trying to come up with a name they decided upon City rather than Rangers or Rovers, even though they knew it had no basis in fact - but because it sounded lofty.
I see the arrogance long predates even the current bunch of merchant bankers

My understanding on the 'city' thing is that they couldn't use 'town' as a previous club Chelmsford Town went bust in 1938. Going bust - perhaps it's a Chelmsford thing?
