Does anyone know if the side we put out on Friday will be made up of definite signings or be full of trialists. I begrudge having to pay £8-00 to watch trialists and dont want a repeat of the fiasco that was Steve Goods testimonial a couple of years ago. He deserved better than that.

Could someone official from the club answer the above question please?

Just spoken with Rod, all players that have signed will get at least 45 minutes. As ever, the bar will be open, the weather forecast is good and beer in plastics will be allowed on the terraces!
We're also planning to send a strong side to Halstead on Tuesday.

Hoping for a bit of entertainment and not a to boring of a match tonight to keep me awake as still a bit spaced out from the hols. With the heat I'm sure players from both teams won't be over doing it on there first match though. Looking forward to seeing new players and manager.

A really entertaining match with some delightful play from the Iron. Lots of quick and accurate one-touch passing, energy and commitment from both Iron teams - we had a (complete?) swap of players at half-time! We could have had a couple more goals and really ran the game. Thoroughly enjoyed it and gives me great hope for the season!

Any chance of Ashley Young signing seeing as he was in attendance tonight (his brother was trialling for Gillingham I believe)
Also saw John Still around too.
Good performance from the lads, thought Thomas played well at centre-back, all the new players looked good and looking forward to a succesful season!

Very early days of course but grounds for optimism. Both Braintree sides worked very hard in warm humid conditions against a strong Football League squad. Lads that caught my eye included Jamie Guy and Sam Lechmere first half and Adam Bailey-Dennis and Robbie Martin second half. We passed the ball, shut down space and hassled Gilingham. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Thoroughly enjoyable match and more effort and skill than seen in most World Cup matches. Without being too optimistic, it looks as if Rod has made some good signings, and on last nights performance add Sam Lechnere to the squad. Well worth the entrance money I am pleased to say.

What a wonderful evening - watching good football from both our teams (first and second half), warm sunshine and a pint of IPA out on the terraces, just like the old days.
Nice to hear Rocket Rod (he is obviously built for speed) giving good practical encouragement and advice to the players and the players listening. Jamie Guy and Mike Nuclear Power will be a handful for any defence if they play together and will hand out a few bumps and bruises; good to see that they played close together ready for the knock-downs. Our number 7 (Nicky Symons?) looks a star player (reminiscent of Robbie Martin when he first came into the first team); it would be good if more of the ball was directed to him to go down the wing for crosses rather than always going for the long ball to Jamie and Mike.
Brad looked unhappy with himself and he did not play as well as he would have liked. It would be great if he (and the others) did not go for the "Killer" long ball so often; Brad can hold and pass it around and I used to love his cross-field passes to Jonah and the wingers.
The defences in both halves looked very impressive - I had not realised we had 22 really good players and it will be difficult for Rocket Rod to decide who is going to stay in a squad of,I believe, 17 or so.
Groucho Marks looked as good as ever and keeps getting those goals. As we should have fed our winger in the first half, we should have got the ball tot him in the second half. As he did a season or two ago, he does a lot of tackling and covering for our other players, but rarely got the ball in attacking positions, which is obviously what he is really there for.
Our main goalkeeper (MacDonald) looked very confident and capable, but our second half goalkeeper made me laugh; for those who remember Paul Porky Cately, he made him look like Twiggy! Still he made some very good saves and is clearly no mug, as long as we keep him away from the burger van at half-time.
All very encouraging for the coming season.

Sorry the reference to the winger in the second half is of course Robbie Martin

Lechmere is another fromer Aveley player whos also played for Thurrock, Yeovil Town and Grays Athletic, he's only 18/19 if i'm correct. Should definately be worth signing

Blimey CM7 I am honestly startled you had not realised Brucey has gone to Dartford............I assume the lad Hazell may be on holiday..........given the early start...........
lots to enthuse over on friday night and we seem to have some decent forwards in abundance for the first time since the good old days of Reinelt/Gutzmore and Tommy Noble very attack minded team then with over 100 goals scored in the eqivalent of Ryman Prem now.
Nice to see Brad just playing behind the front two...........

Haha good spot Ash, Iron Webbo is there also another spelling mistake on the Gillingam report and the article when we signed the 5 players from Aveley? Shouldnt it be Symonds and not Symons? According to the Aveley website it is Symonds.
