Braintree Town v Slough Town
The Iron are back in action this Saturday at the Rare Breed Meat Company Stadium as they take on tenth placed Slough Town.
The Rebels are yet another in form side the Iron have had to face recently winning five and drawing one of their last six games. They didn’t make a good start to the season though, losing six of their first seven matches, with an overall record of P 35 W15 D 8 L12 GF65 GA 56 Points 53, leaving them five points off the play-off places.
On the road this season they have P 18 W 6 D 3 L 9 GF 30 GA 32 Points 21managing only two clean sheets at Weston-Super-Mare and Aveley.
They had a good run in this season’s F A Cup making it to the First Round proper playing seven games in all as three needed replays. It began with a two-nil away win at Hayes & Yeading, the they drew nil-nil at Salisbury City, winning the replay three-nil. They would then draw away again, this time with Ebbsfleet United (2-2), winning the replay two-nil That brought them a home time against EFL2 side Grimsby Town where there earned a replay after drawing one-one. The dream came crashing down at Blundell Park where they were thrashed seven-two.
In the F A Trophy, they overcame Farnborough at home by two goals top one, then lost one-nil away to Bromley.
Leading scorers for the Rebels are Nathan Minhas with fifteen goals and John Goddard with thirteen goals.
The two sides met earlier in the season on 25 November 2023 with the home side winning comfortably three-nil, with goals from Goddard, Minhas and Platt.
The last meeting on Braintree soil was on 24 September 2022, Levi Amantchi gave the Iron an early lead with a goal in the ninth minute, but Ben Harris levelled for the visitors in the second half. Braintree fought back twice last Saturday to take a well-earned point from Welling United on a pudding of a pitch to keep them in fourth place in the VNLS table, ending their run of eight straight wins. With the three teams behind them all within two points, a return to winning ways at the first opportunity will be vital to keep up their play-off ambitions.
