Vanarama National League South
Bath City v Braintree Town
Tuesday evening sees two inform teams go head to head as fourth play fifth in a gladiatorial battle in the Roman city of Bath. City are currently four goals and one point better off than the Iron having P 33 W 16 D 9 L8 GF 55 GA 36 Points 57.
At home their record is P 17 W 10 D 2 L 5 GF 32 GA 19 Points 32.
Home defeats came against Weston-Super-Mare (2-6), Worthing (0-2), Chelmsford City (2-3), Yeovil Town (0-1) and Slough Town (1-2). They have only failed to score in three of their home games and kept eight clean sheets.
In the F. A. Cup they played each tie away, winning two-three at Larkhall, one-two at Weymouth then bowing out two-nil to Worthing. In the F. A. Trophy they played all their ties at home, starting with one-nil wins over Beaconsfield and Boreham Wood then losing on penalties to Coalville three-four after a goal less ninety minutes.
Scott Wilson who scored twenty one goals last season is in the goals again this season with fifteen, one behind leading scorer Cody Cooke o sixteen and Jordan Thomas has eleven goals.
The two sides met at the Rare Breed Meat Company Stadium on 7 October 2023 and played out a one-one draw. Scott Wilson gave the visitors the lead in the sixty second minute before an Aaron Blair goal in the fifth minute of added time gained a valuable point. Our last visit to Bath was on 20 August 2022 with the home side recording a comfortable three-nil win with all the goals coming in the second half, Alex Fletcher and two from Cody Cooke the scorers
It’s not a ground we tend to do well on with the last win there being on 20 March 2010 when the Iron triumphed four-two. Two one-one draws and one goal less draw are the only other occasions the Iron have picked up points here in the last 14 years.
Braintree are currently in the best form of the season so far with six straight wins on the bounce, five of them without conceding. On Saturday the Iron overcame the League’s leading scorers Worthing one-nil with Aaron Blair’s thirteenth goal of the seaon, but that said, the Iron have the second best defensive record in the League, whilst Bath surprisingly were held one-one at Havant & Waterlooville.
Another strong defensive performance will be paramount to picking up more points on the road on Tuesday evening.
