Vanarama National League South
Braintree Town v Dover Athletic
Saturday sees the Iron’s first home game in nearly a month as Dover Athletic come to the Rare Breed Meat Company Stadium.
The Kent side are currently languishing in twenty third place in the VNLS, ten points off safety. They started the season under the management of former Iron utility player Mitch Brundle who was relieved of his duties at the beginning of December 2023. Former Crewe graduate Jake Leberl took over the reins having previously played for the Kent club between 1997 and 2002.
Their record this season is P 30 W 3 D 12 L 15 GF 29 GA 50 Points 21 with an away record of
P 14 W 1 D 4 L 9 GF 13 GA 27 Points 7. Their only win on the road came in their first away fixture of the season, a two-one win at Slough Town. The only other points picked up on their travels came at Bath City (2-2), Chelmsford City (3-3) and Weymouth (1-1).
In the F A Cup they started with two home wins against lower League opposition Hastings United (3-2) and Haringey (2-1) before going out at National League side Eastleigh one-nil. They fell at the first hurdle in the F A Trophy hosting Weymouth, the game ended four-four, with the away side winning on penalties four-one.

Our last meeting was at the Crabble Athletic Ground on 19 August 2023. The Iron made a bright start and took an early lead in the fifth minute when Kyran Clements poking home a corner. The last meeting on Braintree soil was on 1 April 2023 and it was the home side who were the “fools” going down three-one. Luke Wanadio opened the scoring for Dover on twenty five minutes, with Alfie Matthews levelling just before half time. Brandon Pierrick would then give the visitors the lead again with twenty minutes left, before a second for Wanadio in added time sealed the victory.
The last Braintree home win against Dover came on 27 October 2018 when they won two-one, Justin Amaluzor and a Reece Grant penalty scoring the Iron goals, Kevin Lokko with the Dover goal. Braintree goals here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3XWkszTvNg www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xloLM0XiMQ
Last time out Dover upset the form book with a one-nil win over Slough Town to complete the double over them; that result followed four defeats and one draw. Braintree meanwhile made the arduous journey to Devon to play Truro City and came back with all the points with Alfie Pavey scoring on his second debut and new boy Jayden Davis also netting. That result puts the Iron in eleventh place and four points off the play-off places. Seventy four points saw the Iron grab the last play-off spot last season; with eighteen games left, they require thirty three more points to equal that total.
