Vanarama National League South
Braintree Town v Hampton & Richmond Borough
Braintree Town kick off their home fixtures for 2024 with a visit from second placed Hampton & Richmond Borough.
Borough are currently on a seventeen match unbeaten run in all competitions as they try to close the gap on League leaders Yeovil Town who they trail by seven points, their record so far is:
P 25 W 13 D 7 L 5 GF 41 GA 32 Points 46 with an away record of:
P 15 W 5 D 6 L 4 GF 16 GA 19 Points 21
Their three-one defeat at Farnborough on 2 September 2023 was the last time they lost an away game.
They remain in the F A Trophy and have an away tie in Round Four next Saturday at Hartlepool.
Leading scorers for Borough are Ben Seymour with fourteen goals and Mason Bloomfield with nine goals. They also have George Nunn on loan from Derby County who played one game for us at Aveley earlier in the season.
The two sides met at the Beveree a month ago on 5 December 2023 with the game ending one-one. Reggie Lambe scored for the Iron in the eighty second minute, only for Borough to Level in the fifth minute of added time after being awarded a dodgy penalty which Seymour converted.

Last season’s home meeting with Borough was on 4 March 2023 with the Iron winning one-nil through a goal in the seventy second minute from Alfie Matthews - goal on this VLOG from a HRB fan just past nine minutes www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Xayh5NcqsY
Braintree find themselves with three consecutive defeats and only one win from the home game against Aveley in the last six which followed a November of three homes game on the trot where the Iron found the net four times on each occasion. The Iron are now in twelfth place in the VNLS and six points off the play-off places. If 2024 is to see a challenge for seventh spot or better; then their form has to improve quickly or be left behind and a win here would be a big boost to those hopes.
