Vanarama National League South
Dartford v Braintree Town
It’s one of our shorter journeys on Tuesday evening as we head to Princes Park to take on twelfth placed Dartford.
The annual promotion contenders in this league who lost out again in the play-offs last season appointed former Woking manager Alan Dowson in May this year replacing Steve King who was sacked and now finds himself at basement club Havant & Waterlooville.
The Darts record this season is P 18 W 7 D 4 L 7 GF 30 GA 25 Points 25, with a home record of
P 9 W 4D 3 L 2 GF 16 GA 11, with wins against Dover (2-0), Tonbridge (1-0), Havant (2-0) and Weston-Super Mare (4-2). They have also scored in every home game and kept three clean sheets.
In the F. A. Cup this season they lost at home to Welling two-three and like Braintree on Saturday, exited the F. A. Trophy going down nil-one at home to Maidstone.
Leading scorers for the Darts are Harvey Bradbury with five goals and Lewis Manor with four goals.
Still in the Dartford squad is former Iron midfielder Luke Allen and of course BTFC Supporters player of the season for 2022/23 Baris Altintop who joined the Darts in the summer.
In contrast, the Iron’s away form to date is poor for a team with play-off aspirations having
P 8 W 1 D 3 L 4 GF 7 GA 12 Points 6, add to this the two F A competition exits also away from home and things need to improve.
The two sides met at Princes Park on 5 November 2022 when there were fireworks on the pitch. A controlled opening twenty minute spell from the Iron produced no end product and the home side gradually grew into the game, but at half time it was goal less. A soft penalty gave Charlie Sheringham to chance open the scoring which he did sending Sims the wrong way. Tom Bonner who had received a yellow cars in the first half, then received his second on the hour for hauling back Matt Rush. However, this didn’t prevent the home side from adding to their lead when a wonder strike from outside the box from Coulson. The Iron rallied and Kyran Clements pulled one back from a corner. Dartford would go on to add two more in the final stages as Braintree chased the game, both from Carruthers one of which was a penalty.
Prior to that Braintree had won on 2 May 2022 one-nil courtesy of a Harry Lodovika.
The departure of Will Davies and the continued absence of playmaker Reggie Lambe on international duty will have had an effect on the squad, but Shaq Coulthirst will be available again after being denied permission by his parent club to play in the Trophy.
A home win would see the Darts overtake us where four points separates seventh to fifteenth in a compact VNLS table whereas a Braintree win would probably put us in the play-off group.
