Tuesday 7 November 2023
Vanarama National League South
Braintree Town v St Albans City
A second successive home game on Tuesday evening sees St Albans City visit the Rare Breed Meat Company Stadium.
In charge of the Saints is Head Coach David Noble a former EFL midfielder making most of his appearances for Bristol City and Exeter City. He joined City as a player in 2016 before taking the top job in 2022.
Last season the Saints finished on place above Braintree in sixth position. They made it to the play-off final after winning one-nil at Chelmsford City, drawing one-one at Dartford, winning five-three on penalties before going down four-nil to Oxford City.
So far this season their record is P 15 W 7 D 1 L 7 GF 20 GA 19 Points 22 which has them in twelfth place, one place and one point above the Iron.
On their travels they have P 7 W 3 D 1 L 3 GF 10 GA 9 Points 10 winning at Havant & Waterlooville (1-2), Chelmsford City (0-2) and Chippenham Town (1-2).
In this season’s F. A. Cup they won one-two at Leiston before being knocked out one-nil at Billericay Town.
Leading scorers this season for the Saints are Mitchell Weiss with six goals, Dylan Fage with five goals and Giorgio Rasulo with four goals.
Still on the books of the Saints is former Iron goalkeeper Michael Johnson, centre back Michael Clark and this season they have added full back Ben Wyatt.
The game last season at Cressing Road was on 27 September 2022 with Braintree recording a narrow one-nil win with a Levi Amantchi goal in the forty seventh minute. Highlights here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=phQJ7sCMftc&t=151s
That was the first home win for the Iron against the Saints in just over five years when Mark Okoye scored the only goal of the game in another one-nil win.
A fine attacking display on Saturday saw the Iron dispatch bottom placed Havant & Waterlooville four-one with Aaron Blair netting his eighth goal and Will Davies his seventh goal of the season whilst Shaq Coulthirst and Reggie Lambe chipped In with their first for the club. St Albans didn’t play on Saturday as their opponents Worthing were still in the F. A. Cup.
It’s been a fairly inconsistent season so far for the Hertfordshire club whilst Braintree are beginning to make home a fortress again, Another win here will see Braintree leapfrog their opponents in the VNLS table.
