Vanarama National League South
Braintree Town v Taunton Town.
Fresh from Tuesdays excellent BBC Essex Cup Final win, Saturday sees the Iron take on nineteenth placed Taunton Town at the Dunmow Group Stadium as they look to maintain their play-off push.
The Peacocks record to date is P 34 W 10 D 10 L 14 GF 35 GA 39 Points 40
Taunton are an inconsistent team who are battling hard to retain their place in the VNLS after promotion last season saw them reach this level for the first time. The stats show that they like to keep things tight with the second lowest goals scored total behind bottom placed Concord Rangers, but defensively they are joint top along with Chelmsford City and Farnborough.
Top scorer for the Peacocks this season is former Bath City striker Ross Stearn with six goals, Dave Sims-Burgess has four goas along with Zac Smith.
Whilst the Iron were picking up silverware this week, Taunton travelled to Welling United and won one-nil after three defeats and a draw in the four games before. Their other most recent away wins came at Tonbridge Angels (2-3) and at Eastbourne Borough (0-3) which shows that they have it in them to upset the teams higher up the League table.
The two sides met on 3 December 2022 and played out a goal less draw.
Hopefully having lost their unbeaten thirteen game streak at Hungerford last Saturday, the Iron can start a new one to confirm an extended season and more excitement to come in this so far remarkable season.
