Vanarama National League South
Oxford City v Braintree Town
It’s a play-off place head to head as Braintree travel to Oxford City on Tuesday evening.
Oxford City are currently fifth in the VNLS having P 36 W 16 D 12 L8 GF 61 GA 44 Points 60.
Braintree Town are third with a record of P 35 W 17 D 10 L8 GF 52 GA 40 Points 61.
Both teams are in good form so this promises to be a testing encounter for both sides.
Saturday’s home one-two defeat to Farnborough was City‘s first defeat of 2023 with four draws and six wins prior to that.
They have one of the leading goal scorers in the League with Joshua Parker having found the net eighteen times this season in League, F.A. Cup & Trophy. Klaidi Lolos has twelve goals and the reliable Joe Iaciofano has seven goals.
The two sides met at the Dunmow Group Stadium on 6 December 2012 where the game ended goal less. Last season’s visit to Oxford was on 23 April 2022 with both sides taking a point in a one-one draw. Gianni Crichlow had given the Iron the lead in the fifty third minute with a diving header, but the home side levelled in the sixth minute of added time through Iaciofano. Braintree’s last win in Oxford was on 18 January 2020 by four goals to one. The scorers that day were Jordan Chiedozie, Charley O’Keefe, Liam Smyth and Josh Oyinsan, Jaanai Gordon scoring for City.
Braintree took all three points at home to Hampton & Richmond Borough on Saturday when one piece of skill courtesy of an Alfie Matthews free kick flying into the top corner of the visitor’s net. Now on a run with twelve games without defeat and into the business end of the season, manager Angelo Harrop will be hoping his players remain injury free as he looks to utilise his squad to maintain the play-off push.
