Saturday 25 February 2023
Vanarama National League South
Farnborough F. C. v Braintree Town
The Iron head to Farnborough on Saturday for the second time this season; as they look to maintain their play-off push.
Currently placed ninth in the VNLS, the Boro’s record to date is:
P 29 W 14 D 6 L 9 GF 38 GA 28 Point 48.
They are the lowest scorers amongst the top twelve teams in the League, but boast the second best defensive record behind Taunton Town who have conceded two goals less.
Leading scorer for the Boro is Hisham Kasimu with twelve goals, but he was snapped up by Sutton United in January, leaving new recruit Mason Bloomfield as the leading scorer with six goals. Jonathan Page and Freddie Grant have five goals each.
Since the start of 2023 they have made progress up the League table having won seven of their nine matches with just two defeats, one-two at home to Hemel Hempstead and a two-nil defeat at Eastbourne Borough.
Our last visit to the Easy As Hgv Stadium was on 20 December 2012 for the F. A. Trophy tie that saw the Iron eventually progress on penalties five-four; after the game had finished two-two. The scorers that evening were Kyran Clements and Jack Cawley for the Iron and Freddie Grant and Reggie Young for the Boro. The two sides had played out a nil-nil draw on 22 November 2022 prior to this game.
The last League meeting between the two sides in Hampshire was on 12 March 2011when the home side won two-one. Ibe and Smith gave Boro a two goal half time lead with Sam Lechmere netting for the Iron.
The Iron’s recent run of four wins and two draws puts them in third place in the VNLS table with Farnborough just one place behind. An excellent away win at Welling United on Tuesday evening lifted the Iron to fifth in the VNLS, joint on fifty five points with Worthing and Chelmsford City.
With two daws already between the two sides this season, expect another close encounter.
