This was without doubt the Iron's most professional and disciplined performance of the season and they fully deserved their win at Park View Road on Tuesday evening which moves them up to sixth place in the league.
Boss Angelo Harrop was delighted with his players' commitment and persistent from start to finish adding: "An excellent all round performance from everyone and we showed what we are capable of and keeping our discipline against a side that always tried to upset the odds and do anything they can to stop you from playing."
The home side have always been a bit of a bogey side for the Iron in recent years, particularly on home turf, but this myth was finally put to bed with some excellent attacking moves backed up by solid defending in this game watched by a crowd of 454 with many Iron fans making the trip across the River Thames to again vocally support their players.
"Coming to places like this can often be difficult, particularly after we solidly beat them at home earlier this season, but the way the players started the game on the front foot, kept quickly closing them down and forcing them on the defensive was key," he declared. "I felt we could have scored more goals on the night and with a bit of luck could have won by a more comfortable margin.
"Taking an early lead helped us and we then wanted that crucial second goal to give us some breathing space and in the second half I think we dominated the game," he continued. "I'm also glad we kept a clean sheet and didn't concede a goal and that was down to an excellent performance by all the defenders."
He went on: "We need a good result in this game to build us up for Saturday's trip to Farnborough who are having a good run and although we beat them there in the FA Trophy this match will be different and it's a hard one for both sides are going well."
The Iron took the lead on 25 minutes when the pacy Aaron Blair, now back to the form Iron fans saw at the start of the season, sprinted clear on a great through ball to beat goalkeeper Myles Roberts.
"He's regained both his confidence and form and is clearly enjoying his football which is good and he took his goal really well and both he and Alfie Pavey could have scored again to have given us a bigger cushion," he declared.
Despite the Iron's outstanding performance in both attack and in defence it was a surprise that it took the Iron until the 63rd minute to get that second goal.
It came from a tremendous free-kick out on the left flank by sub Alfie Matthews which dipped low into the penalty box where keeper Roberts couldn't get hold of and the loose ball was rammed home by the ever alert Baris Altintop, undoubtedly the Iron's player of the nigh.
The home side's cause was not help by the70 minute sending off of Amadou Kassarate for a really dangerous high tackle as he had already been booked for another bad tackle early on.
But full marks to all the Iron players, including the substitutes, for putting on a comprehensive and disciplined display against a home side who simply were unable to cope with the pace, passing and sheer commitment shown by the Iron.
"I think this win and the way we did it will give us further confidence for the hard game at Farnborough and of course the Essex Senior cup semi-final against Chelmsford City on Monday," added Harrop.
