Vanarama National League South
Welling United v Braintree Town
The Iron travel to Welling United this coming Tuesday evening in the first of three consecutive away fixtures. The Kent side currently sit in fourteenth place in the VNLS.
Their record to date is P 30 W 10 D 10 L 10 GF 42 GA 47 Points 40
Leading scorers for Welling this season are Adebayo Azeez with fourteen goals and Stefan Payne and Taylor Maloney with eight goals each.
Since their visit to the Dunmow Group Stadium back in October, they made progress in the F. A. Trophy beating & Waterlooville three-two at home before going down three-nil at Aldershot Town.
That game on 25 October 2022 was the biggest home win of the season so far for the Iron as they ran out four-one winners. Top scorer Azeez gave the visitors the lead on thirty one minutes before Altintop and Matthews against his former club put the Iron ahead at half time. Goals from Reynolds and Rush completed the victor. Highlights here www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRO5rDoM5BM
Our last visit to Welling on 16 October 2021 ended with a one-nil defeat, Ade Shokunbi scoring the winning goal for the home side and it’s a ground we have not done well at for a few seasons. The last Iron win there was on 29 August 2015. Obafemi gave Welling an early lead but Goals from Michael Cheek and Dan Sparkes brought the points back to Essex.
Welling’s form this year so far has seen three wins, three defeats and two draws which reflects their form over the season so far, only one of those wins was at home. They returned from Slough Town on Saturday with a very good three-nil win, whilst Braintree drew one-one with second placed Dartford in a scrappy game.
The Iron will be looking to improve their results on the road as they look to maintain their play-off ambitions and this will be a good challenge for them.
