Vanarama National League South
Braintree Town v Dulwich Hamlet
The Iron are back at the Dunmow Group Stadium this Tuesday evening in the re-arranged fixture against Dulwich Hamlet. The original game which should’ve been televised back in December was postponed following the cold snap a couple of weeks before Christmas.
Dulwich are eighteenth in the VNLS having P 29 W 9 D 5 L 15 GF 44 GA 55 Points 32
Their away form is:
P 16 W 4 D 4 L 6 GF 13 GA 17 Points 16
Danny Mills as usual leads the goal scoring charts having netted eleven so far this season, George Porter has seven goals and Nana Owusu has six goals.
Since their opening day fixture against us, which was their only win in their first nine League games, they parted company with long serving boss Gavin Rose and drafted in Paul Barnes who has coached at Chelsea and Millwall amongst others, most recent to his appointment, he was at Redhill. He had a spell as interim manager before taking up the role permanently on 22 October 2022.
In the F. A. Cup this season they won their opening home tie against Margate (2-1), but went out in the next round to a one-nil home defeat against Folkestone Invicta. In the F. A. Trophy they fell at the first hurdle going down two-one away to Taunton Town.
That opening day fixture saw Dulwich take all three points with a two-one win. Porter had opened the scoring for the home side in the thirty fifth minute, only for Alfie Matthews to level four minutes later. Andre Blackman popped up with a late winner in the eighty second minute for the home side.
The last meeting at Clockhouse Way was on 23 October 2021 when Hamlet again took all three points with a two-one win. Two goals in the first half from Jordan Green and Quade Taylor set up the win, with Tom Derry netting Braintree’s consolation goal.
The last Braintree home win was on 7 September 2019; again the score was two-one. Danny Mills gave the visitors an early lead before second half strikes from Ade Cole and Alfie Cerulli claimed an Iron victory. Highlights here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDP0E1zRTvw . That is Braintree’s only win in the last five meetings with Hamlet.
Recent form has seen Dulwich lose five and draw one of their last six fixtures, their last victory was on 14 January 2023 when they won four-two at Welling United. Braintree meanwhile have improved of late and Saturday’s hard fought one-nil win against Concord Rangers saw them replace Chelmsford City in the play-off places.
With an unbeaten home record to preserve he’s hoping Valentine’s Day won’t be a heart breaker for the Iron fans.
