SOUTHPORT SATURDAY Just spoken with Southport about Saturday's match. The pitch was used last night for a Everton match and staff will be working on it for the remainder of the week. They remain hopeful about Saturday's game and the weather forecast is favourable. We agreed that we would speak again on Friday for another update. More news when I have it!

Saturday marks a big event in Southport's history.
This is from their website: It is 50 years since one of the most memorable seasons in Southport's history. Under the management of the legendary Billy Bingham, the Sandgrounders reached the fifth round of the FA Cup, including famous wins over Stockport County, Ipswich Town and Cardiff City. To mark half a century since then, Trust in Yellow is delighted to be hosting a very special event with the players who made it all possible. Bingham’s Boys: The Heroes of ’66, will take place in the Grandstand Bar next Saturday, February 13, after Southport’s home match against Braintree Town. This date is special because it is 50 years and a day since a crowd of over 14,000 crammed into Haig Avenue to see Bingham’s Sandgrounders beat Cardiff 2-0 in the fourth round. Of the team which beat Cardiff, four players have sadly passed away, but the Trust is very pleased that all seven surviving members from that team are due to attend. The event will start at 5.30pm and will begin with a short overview of that season. Highlights from the Cardiff match, lasting around 20 minutes and complete with the original BBC commentary, will then be shown on the big screen. The former players will then take to the stage to speak to fans about that season, including a question and answer session. It remains Southport’s best FA Cup run since 1931, and the majority of the players from that campaign also won promotion with the Sandgrounders to what is now League One the following season, before playing against Everton in the cup a year later. It is an event not to miss, so please make a note of the date as we celebrate the anniversary of a special moment in the club’s history.
For those Iron fan's who are staying the weekend, those TV highlights will make fascinating viewing. The Haig Avenue ground has changed massively since their Football League days with only the main stand surviving.

Their pitch does looks terrible. Someone mentioned on their forum that It was financially a good move for them and worth potentially ruining the chances of our game going ahead
