On a very hot afternoon at Melford, Iron started with the 8 men who came on as substitutes against Leyton Orient the previous night, plus Jeremy Walker and reserve players from last season Joe Moore and Joe Maybanks. Iron went ahead against the Thurlow Nunn League Division 1 Champions on the stroke of half time when Sean Marks finished off a ball from Maybanks. Melford equalised during the second half but as the game progressed the Melford keeper pulled off a string of good saves to keep his team in the match. He was cruelly beaten in the very last minute when Scott Tancock tucked home the winning goal for Iron. Team: (1) Will Norris (2) Jeremy Walker (16) Joe Maybanks (4) Kurtis March (5) Scott Tancock (6) Joe Moore (7) Taylor Miles (8) Billy Gibson (9) Sean Marks (10) Jordan Cox (11) Anthony Edgar. SUBSTITUTES: (13) McDonald for Norris - 45 mins 3 SUBS ON APPROX 60 MINS: (12) Michael Bakare, (14) George Pullen, (no shirt number) Mitch Brundle - all on for Cox, Marks & Gibson. 2 LATE SUBSTITUTIONS - (17)Matt Baxter & (no shirt number) Luke Mallett - on for Miles & March
Attendance: 110
Sean Marks was captain, with Mitch Brundle taking over from him when he left the pitch. Jordan Cox was returning to the ground where he made his Iron debut on 14th July 2012, coming on as a substitute and scoring in a 10-0 win. For me, Edgar was the pick of the new faces today. Miles made some positive surging runs from midfield and Gibson whipped some neat crosses in to the box in the second half.

For me I was impressed with kurtis march who dominated midfield, and Billy Gibson who looked good going forward. although we did not play great the team got a good work out! and Joe maybanks also did well
