A decent game of football played at a high tempo this evening saw the Iron come from behind to beat their League Two opponents 2-1. Braintree lined up with something close to their possible starting XI - McDonald, Brundle, Clerima, Fry, Habergham, Akinola, Paine, Davis, Isaac, Sparkes, Cheek. Orient threatened with their pace up front and could have scored when McDonald came for a cross he had no right to go for; as the ball fell to an orient player; the intended placed lob was cleared away by Fry. The first goal came when possession was lost in midfield and the defence were soon outnumbered. A cross came in from the right and was eventually worked over to the spare mine at the far post to tuck away from close range. Braintree's best move of the first have saw good work down the left flank and as Isaac put in a first time cross, Cheek was pushed by the covering centre back and a penalty was awarded. Davis stuck it away comfortably, sending the keeper the wrong way. Other first half efforts came long range from Isaac, Sparkes and Davis; the latter's effort tipped round the post and Cheek drilled wide inside the area.
The only change made by the Iron at half time was in goal where Norris replaced McDonald; whilst Orient made wholesale changes. Braintree then made eight changes with all but Brundle. Clerima and Habergham left to play out the full 90 minutes. I cannot tell you who the trialists were but the tempo of the game did not drop as both teams looked to win the game. The winner came close to the final whistle when a surging midfield run from one of the trialists took him to the edge of the area and what looked like a wide shot ended up being a perfect cross for Sean Marks who put it away clinically. Jordan had a couple of chances, blazing wildly over with one and bringing out a good low save from the O's keeper. Haberghan fluffed a chance too after miss-kicking with his swinger.
First impressions of our new signings - Michael Cheek - looks a more mobile version of Sean often isolated in the formation tonight and should have done better with the one presentable chance he had. Matt Fry - Has big boots to fill in replacing the departed Massey, not as dominant as AM on this performance and had it been a league game, he would surely have received 2 yellows. Taylor Miles - another who would have been carded, looks to have a similar work ethic as Isaac.

A useful workout by the sound of it dbbn, I suspect not much of a turnout with many on holiday myself included.

Was a reasonably good game all things considered and the crowd was swollen by a large number of O's fans eager to see Ian Hendon's first game in charge. I doubt if either side learned a lot from tonight but a good work out for both teams.
Don't know about Two yellows, friendly or not I don't know how Matt Fry wasn't sent off for the two footed tackle second half.

An excellent run from midfield into a left side position by Billy Gibson (loaned a few seasons ago from Yeovil) sent in the perfect cross to the head of Sean Marks who does what he does best and headed passed the keeper, Cox should have scored when faced with an open goal and only the keeper to beat and fluffed his lines a bit, just out of practice I reckon. Overall it was a good performance and the Cowleys, with the signings so far will have a good first team choice. I believe that nearly all the Braintree Team players on the field last night are signed on, those other trialists are great possibilities. Anthony Edgar impressed with his pace. Miles Taylor delivered a good corner. For a pre-season game it was entertaining and a good crowd turned out. Those that thought to give it a miss dipped out on a good game with little in the way of stoppages and the changes were all made wholesale by both teams which kept the flow of the game. Referee was ok but doubt he won any popularity contests with the O's fans with the penalty call but it looked right to me, even the Orient press core thought so, but the right result for Iron fans. Looking forward to the visit of Millwall, though I suspect with it being an 11, probably won't see much of the first team.

An entertaining match from start to finish with both teams having periods of dominance. Was difficult to fully assess Michael Cheek and Matt Fry etc as this was their first outing in an Iron shirt, but Danny and Nicky know what they want from the players and I feel sure they will gel after a few games.
I believe the attendance was 729 which as mentioned above was swollen by the Orient faithful turning out to see their new managers 1st game in charge. Thanks for coming guys, and those Iron fans who couldn,t make it you missed a good night out.

Looks like the Cowley's are trying to build on the solidarity of the last few years under Devonshire the team set up as they did last season formation wise, another mid to top table finish would be good but needs another striker I think. Cheek, Cox and Marks are all very similar.
I'm sure there will be another couple additions before August.

I went to this game with a mate who is a lifelong Orient fan so I didn't watch it with my usual critical eye but spent much of the game whittling on about nothing in particular. However what I did notice was a hard working performance from the Iron whom never slacked the pace from start to finish. A physical performance by Remy Clerima shook the cobwebs from the Orient team and once again captain Kenny leading from the front were the highlights.

I wouldn't touch Edgar with a barge pole; he trialled at Barnet in 2012 and looked fantastic - got his contract and then did nothing. His contract was terminated "mutually" later that season.
