Following a 1-1 draw at Wembley this afternoon, Bristol Rovers defeated Grimsby Town 5-3 on penalties to regain their Football League place. The match was watched by a Conference record crowd of 47,029.
Only three league games at The Miles Smith Stadium attracted more than 1,000 spectators last season....Barnet, Bristol Rovers and AFC Telford United. All three of those clubs have now departed the league.

You can add to that we've also lost the two best crowd pullers from the season before Cambridge and Luton. Last years crowds were down because many thought that we should have pushed on from our 6th placed finish and not be going 10 games without a win and struggling against lower league teams in cup comps. Hopefully local fans will find football more stimulating with the Cowley brothers.

I agree but I don't think you can loose sight of the horrendous injuries we suffered at the start of last season. This had a major impact to ambitions of progressing to a higher placed finish. I also think we put to many eggs in one basket hoping Charlie would come back firing earlier than predicted.

Agreed as well - lets hope Strutts benefits from a full pre-season .....so I guess we could get Alex Woodyard back looked decent on loan before.....rumour mill is that Michael Cheek from across THE CHELMER might be interested in stepping up a level - still only 21........a decent centrehalf might be the priority. Was at a spurs legend game yesterday at leyton orient and spoke at great length to Justin Edinburgh (now at Gillingham). He is very good pals with our new manager and mentioned he is an excellent bloke and will be a great manager for us - good praise indeed.... teddy also mentioned Charlie has had an op at ebbsfleet - tried to force 43 year old anderton out of retirement but he was having none of it ....Anderton and sheringham still both a class act..........congrats to rovers well deserved...

There was 9k more at Wembley for the Conference play-off, compared to league 2 play-off final.
