Just taken this off Chelmsford city soapbox fan's site. As some of you may be aware, I have also spent some of this season covering a number of Braintree home games for the Non-League Paper (and before anyone says, I don't support Braintree in anyway whatsoever!) and was hardly surprised by Devonshire's decision to leave. I feel he's taken the club as far as he can with the budget. This is one of the reporter's who write's for NON LEAGUE PAPER on our game's. I wondered why some of our game's were reported in a negative way ? Can we ask for a open minded reporter please.

Hi,
If you're going to use my posts, by all means do - but quote it all please!
"As some of you may be aware, I have also spent some of this season covering a number of Braintree home games for the Non-League Paper (and before anyone says, I don't support Braintree in anyway whatsoever!) and was hardly surprised by Devonshire's decision to leave. I feel he's taken the club as far as he can with the budget.
In truth, he has done a remarkable job and I think had their budget been a little more flexible in terms of bringing in some players I feel they could have had a similar top-half finish like last season where they finished sixth. The players just look dead on their feet as he couldn't rotate the squad very often.
The Conference is an incredibly tough league for clubs such as Braintree to compete in due to the influx of ex-Football League sides and their enormous budget. Working part-time is also a challenge in itself what with travelling and not being able to afford staying in hotels the night before games etc.
I wouldn't be surprised if Liam Daish took the Braintree job if he decided to leave Nuneaton. With their imminent relegation and him living in Portsmouth, playing in the North won't seem appealing to him, and it's a good job to take if they can keep the majority of the squad - Braintree possess some very high-quality players.
Good luck to Alan wherever he ends up - some have tipped him to go to Aldershot. We shall see."
While I don't support Braintree (and since it is a Chelmsford City fans' forum, I felt it necessary to state that) I bear no grudges whatsoever and report the games in a fair way that doesn't favour any team - it's purely based on the team's performance on the day and latest form.
There is no job going at the Non-League Paper as I will be continuing the post next season.
Thanks.
Adam.

A pretty fair post. I don’t think many of us would disagree with most of that. Maybe the bit about the budget. By flexibility, I presume you mean give him a little more. I think – and again I think most people agree – that the club is right to stick to a tight budget and not pay out what it can’t afford. We’ve seen too many teams go bust to want to go down that route.
Otherwise, yes, he has done a remarkable job, and yes, it is tough in the Conference for clubs like Braintree.
I don’t read the Non League paper so I don’t know if your reports are negative or not. But with some of our performances this season, you would be perfectly entitled to be!

I always smile when people speculate - Liam Daish taking the managers job? Is he even in the running? Portsmouth isn't my idea of local. Also a chequered career at Ebbsfleet winning the FA Trophy but offset with a relegation.
