In the end a very comfortable win and a welcome six points against our Christmas/New Year rivals. The first half lacked any fizz that may have been left over from last night's celebrations. Both sides pumping long aimless balls into the air for a first half of headers and vollies; if anyone didn't have a hangover headache; they certainly would have by the end of the first 45 minutes. The only chance of note fell to the Darts from a flicked on corner with Nick pushing out the follow up shot. Things carried on in the same vane early in the second half, but the Iron then started to get on top. Chez opened the scoring cutting in from the right and fired in a left foot shot (deflected?) to the keeper's near side. Shortly after, Simeon converted a Chez corner with a simple back post header and the confidence came flowing back. Cox was on for Marks and Kenny for Strutton after neither front player had overly impressed. After scoring, Simeon was again replaced by Sparkes who completed the scoring rounding off a counter attack out pacing the defender and coolly tucking the ball away just inside the post. It would be good to see this finishing eleven start next time out; the side had more impetus and the changes freshened things up.

Thanks dbbn at least someone survived the new year revelries ? You pretty well match the BBC Essex commentary's account of the match, though I think that match caller BBC Essex's David Brett was more scathing in his criticism of lack of crowd involvement. To make matters worse it was 3am in the morning and got the impression that he was at the match under sufferance - he was surely being paid by the beeb and given penalty rates for a public holiday on top? He even inferred commiserations were in order to which-ever colleague who had the misfortune to be covering the clubs next match at Chester. His sidekick Glenn Pennyfather on the other hand seemed to diplomatically attempt to get back to the game and away from the whingeing. Also according to Brett, the pitch was below par and in his words "starting to cut up" was that so? So the end result 3-0 and three lovely points eventually transcended all that went on or didn't during the game. Well done and lets all have a great 2015.

Chez's shot took a massive deflection. Good for Braintree to get a win after the mess on Sunday. Nice to see some luck go our way for once. Dartford were rubbish but Hamann did have to make a couple of good saves. We were a much better team after the substitutions were made and that probably made the difference in the game.

The game was a hard watch for the first 75 minutes punctuated only by a hard, long shot in the first half by Matt Paine and a couple of match saving saves from Nick Haman. Akinola was our most industrious player until Kenny came on as sub and started to spread the ball about. The first goal was clearly an own one but who I am to deny Chez the Glory? From there on in the team remembered how to play football and looked threatening with every attack. Our league position is looking more secure as the bottom teams seem to be falling away.

ZZZZZZZZZZ. What a snooze fest for 65 mins, only Niks class save and Paineys piledriver that kissed the outside of the post was enough to keep the silent masses from nodding off. I only commented last game how we seem to have no plan B. Yet it was only a injury to Sean that for me turned the game. His replacement, Jordan has such a different style it opens things up more, and when Charlie left the pitch and Kenny came on that proved pivitol. He looked class with his passing and clever close play just changed things. We attacked better had more ideas and was just better than them. Would also like to see the line up that finished start the next game as I take it Sean prob injured and maybe introduce Charlie from subs bench. Dartford - Summoned up by one of their fans on the way out," We really are dog shite !" I have to agree. I will be gobsmacked if they not relegated, Ok so Nik had to make 3 outstanding saves but thats all they offered. If they played with as much flair and passion as they did putting into their physical challenges they would be a better team. Sad if they go down though and if Barnet go up to, Oh and Hartlepool and Carslie come down next seasons away travel bill will be extortionate! Team ratings Nik 8 - Breathtaking last save Mitch 6 - Too many wasted balls forward Sam 7 - Couple of mistakes but ok Remy 7 Had another good game Alan 7.5 Think he makes a great captain Matt 7 Barely troubled by their midfield Chez 8 Some great lung busting runs James 6 Weakest player on the pitch for me Sim 8 Must be covered in bruises today ,leapt so well for his headed goal Sean 6.5 Had a rough ride in physical battle Charlie 6.5 Starved of quality service and unable to shine
Subs Jordan 7.5 Not the best footballer in the world but offers so much more Kenny 8.5 MOTM Despite a 20 min cameo he was the difference Dan 7 I bet that goal helps him with the previous miss week before
Well done team , The first time I can remember 3 subs for us changed a game. Hope Sunday is another 3 points. COYI One last thing where have all the singers gone ? And no I am not volunteering saving myself for next x factor series !!

Not only Hartlepool and Carlisle, but also the possible return of Barrow.
Thought Painey played well, he had a bit more freedom and fire in his belly, if only that long range shot had found the back of the net.
