----------
We travelled to Norfolk's Downham Market today to visit Downham Town with the good news that three players returned to us. Joe Moore & Joe Maybanks returned from the bench as unused subs at Weymouth away with the first team and Alfie Walker returned from his one match suspension. We had probably our strongest line up with only two regulars missing, Richmond Ayoola picked up an injury last Saturday at home to Gt Yarmouth Tn & Reece Sayers away to Hadliegh Utd the midweek before.
The lads showed our new Assistant Manager the heart, commitment and effort he would of hoped for in his first game without the Gaffa. In an even first half hour with not much goal action, but with the Iron dominating play we went behind to a Karl Tanslry goal, but the lads didn't cave in and fought back with a Matt Baxter goal, two minutes later Flynn Tarman is upended in the box and we gain a penalty which Alfie Walker our regular penalty taker puts it away. Flynn could barely walk off the pitch and had to be carried off by our physio and sub, the Downham player gets away with a yellow. (I better not comment further) Half time we are 2.1 up.
2nd half really continued as the first half finished and this time it was Downham who got the penalty, but our Alfie Walker gets sent off. (Scrathes head, again I better not comment any further) Matt Kalvert scored from the spot for the home side. With ten men it spurred us on and if any team was going to score it was only going to be us as Regan Pelling caused Downham problems and the home side spent the remaining 35 minutes camped in their own half. Our lads really deserved the three points for their effort today, it is not about winning but about how the boys respond and they did all that was asked of them.
This is the 2nd time we have drawn with Downham this season as we drew 1.1 at our place when we also conceded a penalty and like the earlier game in the season some of our boys took some harsh challenges, probably the most singled out player today was Joe Maybanks who had to come off in the end. Special mention today must go to Flynn Tarman, his first start after being a sub and then a long term injury, a real shame for the lad that it had to end early for him as he, like the others gave us 100%.
If we go to Halstead Town on Tuesday night with that kind of attitude we wont be too far away from our end goal. WELL DONE LADS.
