IRON face third from Bottom Southport in tomorrows Vanarama Conference league game at the Amlin. As we always say there's no easy fixtures in this league and with the visitors arriving with a new manager, I don't see this game being easy either. I wonder how many of our injured will be back?

It should have been an easy game but it wasn't. If Jordan Cox had converted his four clear chances of which there two in each half the result would have been very different. Southport were not a great team but played with confidence having come behind to draw in their last game at Lincoln and being under new management. The only positive I can think of is that the performance was not as bad as the opening game at Macclesfield!

Well that has to be the worst team performance I have seen in a long while, Maybe my expectations are too high but we looked the relegation fodder team and not the team from Southport. I was predicting a 4 nil rout for us today based upon the passion and determined displays recently against Barnet and Halifax. What we got was a reality check . A real dull game lacking in any spark and quality. So disappointing. No game plan, no passion from most, passes astray, headless running and no game changers from the bench. Ok ok i may be hearing tiredness and fatigue etc but Southport played in a frenetic 3-3 on tues, We played 7 days ago! I hope Devs gave them a rollocking in the dressing room because there seemed no togetherness today no cohesion and no idea, The less said about our finishing the better. Why we practice shots before the game is surely just to tease the fans, did you see Jordan hit the back of the net 3 times consistently, if only he did that in the game. Sorry lads but I feel really let down today. I will always clap the team off at the end of the match win lose or draw but today I feel their performance did not warrant me staying past the final whistle. Small dissection of the match, We miss Painey. Not the best footballer in the world but sits infront of back 2 and breaks up attacks and any threats. Hurry back. We also need to shoot when near the area and headers need to be on target !
Team Ratings
Nik 6- Needs to be more decisive come/ go and A voice needed from the back. Ryan 8- Although MOTM We should of used him running forward more Sam 5- Poor , pour and Paw today ! Mitch 5 - Beaten to easily at time may have been distracted by his other half ! Alan 7.5 - Turned easily by Jean Brodie but some great tackles and threw body in the way ( Take note ) Chez 4 - Woeful display today was summoned up by lack of urgency at retrieving the ball having gone 1 down. Kenny 4 - Passes went to opposition and created nothing poor game James 4- Can someone show James where to run to when attacking and how to cross please Dan s 5 - Looked like a player coming back from injury and faded after 30 mins Dan W 6 - Like a headless chicken at times but did..... well ok Jordan 5 - The thing holding the net up is where the ball goes, Too many wasted chances
Subs
Sean 4 Our savior returns 7 touches, 1 free kick earn t and little else to note. Sorry Ryan C 4 ? ? Not sure what to say.
If we play with as little passion in our next 2 games Barnet will tonk us and who knows what Alty will do. Lets hope Clerima, Paine, Sparks, Akinola and Strutton come back to full fitness soon and perhaps we will se devs bring in a loanee this week? We go again. COYI

It was frustrating listening on the radio between 1 & 3am, by which time I may as well hang on for Devs post match summary twenty or so mins later. As Devs said he thinks that the expectation from his part time players may be too high and from the off his personal target for the season has been 50 points and survival, I think that should actually be 52, but never mind. I guess what's frustrating for fans is how we can put in great performances against highly rated teams then be disjointed and splutter our way through matches against the struggling teams. One things mostly apparent, if we should fall behind in a game that's good night nurse for us.

Just goes to show that in a league as hard as this, opposition teams irrespective of their league position, take no prisoners. Until we can get strutton in the team to consistently put away these type of chances we keep creating, we could well have more games like this

A poor showing all round and this shows what can happen without clinical finishing. There was a lack of support in attack, with Cox and Walker so isolated against 6 defenders. We need to get higher up the pitch as a unit and support our strikers. Simon didn't let me down using "should of" again.

Following on from the point made by Ozbrit. Did you know, that despite our strong campaign last year, we never won a League game, once we'd fallen behind at some point during the game? We managed a few draws, but in the league campaign, we didn't achieve a single 'come from behind' win. Guess what, we haven't managed a 'come form behind' win so far this year either.
We'll have to break that run soon!

A better option is not to go behind.

That's how we manage to win our games Kev, we're definitely a first half side going on when we score the bulk of our goals. How much that's due to the players being part time is hard to say, but that said it's paradoxical how well our lads do when we have two games a week to play compared to when they've only had to train midweek.
