Excellent start, we're too often creating goal attempts without the final product for my liking. If we'd taken one of them, the pressure would also be taken off us, but I can't complain overall. For those of us following the game from home there is BBC Essex commentary with our very own Gordon Humphris assisting - listen here: www.bbc.co.uk/englandcms/livestreams/int8.asxGoIRONGo!

All over. Won 4-0. Had 16 shots to Southport's 9. Attendance 741. Other relevant scores - Luton came from behind to win 2-1 at Dartford, Cambridge won 1-0 at Macclesfield and Grimsby won 1-0 at Grimsby. We are up to 6th.

Fantastic effort; let's hope there's something left over for the harder proposition of Halifax. Also well done to the 9 fans from Braintree who went.

First class performance. Respect to the supporters who made the journey. Roll on Thursday, I think we may do better than expected.

Haha yeah they played at Wrexham. What's happened to them this year. They're perennial promotion chasers like Grimsby most seasons. Maybe getting turned over by their lesser rated countrymen Newport in last year's play-offs has shattered their confidence in themselves.

Just when you might think that things couldn't get any better and the Iron go up a gear. I'm really thinking the play offs are a real possibility. A draw or better at Halifax and the dream stays alive.

Really good result in a game I'm sure a lot of us may have expected us to to do well in, considering southport's league position and the fact we tend to win there anyway but it seems the disappointment of us not getting anything out of the Gateshead match must have worked against southport aswel lol. Great to read on the southport website about our players and management shaking the 9 iron supporters hands after the match, credit to them and especially for the fans travelling up to watch the goal spree. Tomorrow you have to assume will be a different kettle of fish. Halifax have been thumping most teams at the shay, but with the form we are in........this small squad of part time guys have got a contingent of this town dreaming COYI!!

Just been looking through the Southport forum. It makes pleasant reading:
Englishr: Fair play to braintree. Big strong well organised unit. Yellow Sky: No complaints with the result, if anything it should've been more Mr C: They were outplayed all game and not up to the pace of the Braintree lads. Mike Hunt: Southport have yet to record a goal against Braintree at home in the three seasons since the teams first met and this was a continuation of that theme with a 0-4 defeat against a side who travelled up to Gateshead on Saturday, lost in the last minute, came up to Southport on Tuesday and are going to Halifax on Thursday. Alan Devonshire has forged a reputation for building robust teams full of heart, Braintree didn't disappoint, a 363 days on from the run which sparked Southport's revival in the division and a year to the day since their defeat against Alfreton Southport turned in a performance with which the score didn't flatter Braintree. The opposition were perhaps the best side to visit Haig Ave this season. Full credit to the opposition for their relentless work-rate and competitiveness given such a difficult schedule. Harlow: Are Braintree on a similar type of budget to ourselves? Seem to do well every season but having a great season this year. Be a great achievement for them to get into the playoffs!! Lurch: Best side I've seen at Haig Ave all season. Compact, quick, direct. Worked extremely hard. Very impressed.
