Although the Iron was on a rest day yesterday the conference league continued with the remainder of the games going ahead. The standout result was Hereford beating Cambridge, hopefully the U's bubble has burst as their on loan striker returned to the Palace. Luton move closer to top place with a 4-2 win over Gateshead, perhaps their whingeing supporters will finally get behind John Stills who has done a cracking job. Aldershot are moving mountains and their 6-0 win over Tamworth moves them out of the relegation zone. Barnet beat Hyde away only by one goal and return into the playoff position though they are clearly not finding the league as easy as they thought when they beat the nine man iron. Hyde remain bottom with 3 points!

At about half way through the season the league table looks a bit strange. The two best teams in the league sit quite rightly at the top and in third Alfreton! Then come Grimsby and Kiddy who have drop to fifth with Halifax in sixth. After seeing both Alfreton and Halifax at Braintree I find that surprising even more so despite winning last Saturday we seem to have dropped a place. Barnet are only one place above us after believing they had won the league when they beat our nine men. Hyde still propping up the table with 3 points!

It's sure turning into an unpredictable season full of surprises. I hope that neither of the top two manages promotion they're good pay days for us.

It's looking almost inevitable that Cambridge and Luton will go up. I'll put my money on Luton being champs as they have the wind in their sails. If we don't make promotion (one can believe we do) then there potentially some big clubs in division two looking on shaky ground, i.e. Bristol Rovers and Northampton.
