Anyone know what strength the team is likely to be? Will Devs be in charge? I suppose it's likely that the team will get stronger as we progress, the line up away at Heybridge Swifts was quite strong. If I'm not too tired after work I may take a trip down the M11 and get me self some jellied eels. You can find a link to the Barking FC website here. www.barking-fc.co.uk/

I'm going to make the trip to see the lads who need 90 minutes under their belts. (or as least as long as Dev's wants them to have).
I trust Dev's will be there to watch too.

Left home just before 5.30 made good progress down the M11 then got stuck in traffic on the North Circular. I moved about a mile and a bit in half an hour, local radio reported a serious fire in the Barking area. I got to the Ilford turn off and decided to turn around and come home. I hope the team and other supporters made it OK.

Sat Navs have a lot to answer for if they are suggesting that the way to get to Dagenham (where Barking play) is via the M11 and North Circular. The A12 was absolutely fine. A number of players missed the start which explains the strange line up: 1. Nathan McDonald (2)Courtney Homans (3) Newman Carney (4) Ryan Peters (5) Moore (6) Joe Maybanks (7) Luke Daley (8) Matthew Southwell (9) Jordan Cox (10) Reis Farley-Hearn (11) Dan Sparkes. Subs - (16) Brad Quinton for Moore & (15) Exodus Geoghagen for Farley-Hearn - both these subs were in the 1st half, (14) Sam Griffiths for Maybanks. Unused subs - (12) Matthew Walker (18) Goddard. The floodlights went out after 10 minutes, causing a 30 minute hold up, meaning that those arriving late hadn't missed much. The pitch was very bobbly and uneven and had a slope, with the top side covered in leaves. Dan Sparkes had his work cut out trying to get down that side and get crosses in. To their credit, Barking did not try and kick everything that moves as always seemed to be the case when we used to be pitted against ESL teams. They didn't offer much of a threat but were gifted a goal by a poorly placed pass by Carney which would have set up an interesting finale had the lights not failed for a second time. Brad did his best to get us playing football but much of the game was like watching Sunday Lge stuff and some of our fringe players clearly had no appetite for the game at all. I hope they are a bit more up for it for the rematch. Once again a very small turnout of Iron fans for a game so close to home.

A strange night, with two separate floodlight failures, the second of which meant an abandonment.
I agree with 'jonw' about the sub-par performance of some of our fringe players. They let their standards fall to the level of the opponents. Accepting that the pitch was difficult, especially the side that was covered with leaves, the overall performance was poor. The Youth Team players/Reserves seemed more committed. I also agree that Brad tried to play a bit, but here are my match scores for the 1st Team squad players: -
Nathan MacDonald - 6 (nothing to do really, as they presented very little threat on target) Ryan Peters - 6 (generally solid, and played at centre half) Newman Carney - 6 (tried to play a bit) Luke Daley - 5 (seemed to think it would be easy) Dan Sparkes - 5(poor control, couldn't beat a poor full back, and lacked composure on the ball) Jordan Cox - 6 (worked a bit, but no end result) Exodus Geohagen - 6 (came on as a sub & did ok) Brad Quinton - 7 (tried to get them to play a bit)
Generally, I wouldn't say that any of them did much to impress Dev's or the fans.
Despite the poor quality of the Barking side, they looked like the might get an equaliser through determination, and the fact that we hadn't killed them off. We should have been out of sight by the time of the abandonment. I realise that these games are tough, but some of these fringe players had a chance for a full workout, and a chance to show the gaffer that they deserve a 1st team starting place. With the exception of Ryan, whose 1st Team place is generally regarded as secure, the rest let themselves down.
I hope they do better in the replayed game, assuming the County decide to replay the game.
The journey home was a lot easier than the one there!!

From Essex FA:
Following the abandonment of last night’s Essex Senior Cup tie after 76 minutes due to floodlight failure, we are satisfied the abandonment was outside the control of either club.
As a consequence, in accordance with competition rules we can confirm this fixture will be replayed on Tuesday 10 December 2013. Kick-off will be at 7.45pm unless mutually agreed otherwise.
