Looking forward to seeing a team I've seen a lot of before my move to Braintree. Having sad that, my attendances at Underhill had dropped off dramatically the last 2 seasons due to poor performances. They now seem to be finding their way with a good start in the Skrill Premier, but today's draw at home to Nuneaton should be timely reminder that they aren't going to stroll this league.
Edgar Davids came in after a terrible start under former coach Mark Robson (12 games without a win). Despite attaining their highest points total for 4 seasons, ultimately their poor start cost them their league status. Here's the lowdown on the players.
Graham Stack, one time Arsenal stopper, signed after being released by Hibs last season, probably one of the best keepers in the league.
RB Andy Yiadom, needs little introduction to you Iron fans, but has played every game this season at RB after Fuller was released.
LB Elliot Johnson, youth product, good left foot, has come on in leaps and bounds.
CB David Stephens, another Hibs reject, good solid defender, should be playing higher. Has been partnered by Jack Saville, originally a loanee, but found himself loaned out to Ebbsfleet last season, decent young centre back. Acheampong, signed from Woking, so never seen him play.
Midfield - Davids yet to start a game and has pretty much left it to - Curtis Weston, experienced ex Gilligham player, nothing special. Mark Byrne, another loanee who signed permanently 1 year ago, small but quite combative with a decent shot. Casabella, one of 2 Spanish midfielders signed pre-season along with Luisma Villa who has been out injured, The latter is the more creative, the former defensive.
Offering width are Keanu Marsh-Brown, picked up after being released by Oxford towards the end of last season, saw him come on as a sub against Dagenham and get sent off! Luke Gambin, another youth product, small in stature but a very direct wide player.
Strikers, Barnet tend to play with one up front - Jake Hyde, top scorer last season and on 4 already this. Not the most mobile and will not be able to run in behind, but good a sticking a chance away. Harry Crawford signed last season from Dartford, Bees fans have yet to take to him and he's yet to score. Mangerik, signed pre-season from Dutch football, not seen him play. Scored a few times pre-season a few of those from the bench.
Davids has tried to instil a passing game and you'll see them knock it about across the back line and when pressed, back to the keeper. They don't tend to get it forward very quickly and don't open teams up too easily.
Can see this being my first 0-0 at the Amlin if Braintree pay them the same respect they did against Kiddie. However if they pressure the bees back line, then they could get the 3 points.
