Any chance we'll tie this lad up to a contract? I'd suggest he's only training with us to keep his fitness at 100%. Would be a massive coup if we could get him. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Whichelow

Agree with you mooresy, although he has only had limited time on the pitch for us he looked way above the other triallists on show. Perhaps with the new money available to Dev's now the league has a sponsor we can tempt him to sign.

Sorry he's not impressed me at all; the midfield looked stronger when it was Mulley/Davis/Isaac/Paine. The full backs can provide just as good width if not better.

In his two apperances to date...? Mmmm a bit of an early call and unwise to think this guy isn't good enough. Raised at Watford and good enough to play in their first team 21 times. Think we'd be lucky to snaffle a player of that calibre, especially as he's currently trialing at league clubs as well as us.

He scored a fantastic goal for Watford away at Derby and always worked hard for the team when i saw him play

Yep; in those 2 appearances he has looked very ordinary, but if he does sign he'll hopefully prove me wrong. The fact he was at Watford means nothing; the Conference is full of such players.

The fact he was at WATFORD means he is a great player, and Braintree should sign him up straight away. If we had 11 ex-WATFORD players we would walk this tinpot league.

I stand by my original post; obviously as a Watford fan you're slightly biased. I reiterate; there are many ex league players discarded by bigger clubs in this league. Prior to moving to this area October last year, I was a regular at Barnet. They boasted many players over the years who had been at bigger clubs. Off the top of my head I can think of Nicky Nicolau (ex Arsenal) last season at Lincoln, now at Chelmsford. Barnet also had ex Gooner Paulo Vernazza who disappeared into anonymity. Every now and then you get a gem like Nicky Bailey who was released by Fulham, plucked from Sutton by Barnet and went on to have a career at Championship level, but they are few and far between.

Welcome to our supporters forum dbbn, you sound like you know what you're talking about and I agree ex league players who can't find a club are generally on their way out of the professional game. We hope that Matthew is one of the few who proves to be the exception to the rule. So will you be supporting us now that you're one of us? I don't expect you to totally switch your allegiance but another paying spectator at the Amlin is always a good thing. While you're at it you might like to upload an avatar/image to your profile, you can do this by uploading one of your own or just select one of the forums stock pics. Having your own avatar imo improves the appearance of the forum.
We look forward to reading more of your contributions here - Cheers!

Thanks ozbrit. I can confirm that I have purchased a season ticket to watch the Iron from the seats. I'm looking forward to the bank holiday home and away games against Barnet. Most Bees fans think they are going to walk this league, but I'm certain that they'll find it a lot tougher in reality. Their current squad is nowhere near as the team that romped the league a few years back. As for Braintree, I think they've made great strides with the resources available to them, but am unsure as to whether they could go any further. Devs seems to have the right attitude and another season like 2012/13 would be a good one.

I'd just like to add that Barnet have today signed 2 Spaniards, one former Racing Santander player and one former Real Madrid player. Puts the Watford thing into the shade. Just proves there are no guarantees just because you were once on the books of a big club.

And how many times did they play in Santanders and Madrids 1st team?
Loads of times? A few times? Or none?
My guess is the latter. Nothing puts the mighty Watford in the shade, least of all, Hertfordshires 3rd team,
Up the Orns.

Is this the same Watford who had about 50 loanees last season? No wonder players are leaving. Ok Education time on Watford FC from a season ticket holder. We had 16 TOTAL loan players last season, Two Almunia and Fitz Hall were signed on one year contracts, as Almunia has done again this season both were FREE AGENTS. One of the Loans Forestiere was Signed permanently in January 2012. Four more of last years loans signed 4-5 year contracts this summer. Indeed currently we have NO Loans at the club. Would or did you moan at Man Utd or Chelsea who loaned out over 20 players last season from their clubs each? There is a financial fair play system coming in and Watford have never been in Administration, and having the Loans last season LEGALLY helped keep the club solvent and run currently on NO debt. I wish people would find out the full facts on my club before spilling out the same old wrong tired argument which is 100% wrong. Look at Crystal Palace and their manager who was most vocal about us only after we played them in the league,How many permanent signings has he made this season and how many times have they tried to follow the dream and gone into Administration? Rant over. Back to Matty Whichelow, he is a hard working, skillful player who just wants to play football, what more do you need to know about a young player who loves playing football. It has nothing to do with the fact he was at Watford, only the fact i have seen and know what he can do and what ability he has.

Only pulling your leg mate - hence the exaggeration. I wish Watford no harm and hope things go well for Matty.

probably similar money, but closer to home and playing in a 'regional' league. fair enough really, and as a part time player there is a difficult work/life balance to find.
