Braintree 1 Colchester Utd 4 H.T. 0-3 Gave away a couple of early goals, and the first half overall was very uninspiring. We restarted the second half much better and pulled one back when Marks headed home under pressure from Isaac's cross. Overall a pleasing second half performance, although it was Colchester who added the only other goal late on. STARTING LINE-UP: Nathan McDonald (Sub. Nik Hamann), Ryan Peters (Sam Griffiths), Newman Carney (Sam Habergham), Matt Paine, Alan Massey, Chez Isaac (Gregg Akalpele), Matt Whichelow (Charlie Wassmer), Nicky Symons)Kenny Davis, Sean Marks, Dan Holman (Jordan Cox).

We played not as bad as the scoreline, or the Colchester Daily Gazette www.gazette-news.co.uk/sport/headlines/10562039._/would suggest. We were very slow initially compared with the Pompey and Southend matches, and that in my view resulted in those two early goals. In the second half, and after Kenny and Sam came on, we had the ball in the Colchester half for much of the period, and had more scoring opportunities that the Us. Despite the poor score I was impressed with our play, so am keeping my fingers crossed for the rest of the season. Where was Dean today? In my opinion we might have seen a different outcome if he had been there.

Didn't the U's play their first string the previous evening against Spurs? In view of that, this was a poor outcome, or am I missing something?

Guys Guys Guys look none of these friendlies actually matter. Col U will spend another season scrapping amoung the relegation places, Portsmouth seem to think they will walk League 2 and Southend will either fold from another unpaid tax bill or just miss out on the play offs again. Where as we ( Still a Part time outfit) will be playing some quality football, being a well run club and hopefully challenging for the play offs. Roll on August 10th !!!

I didn't make the Colchester game, but was at the Portsmouth game. I estimate that there were about 500 in attendance for Portsmouth.
Does anyone know the attendances for the 3 home games so far? These funds will help boost the coffers ready for when the real costs start kicking in.
I thought we matched Portsmouth across all areas of the pitch, but it can get a little dis-jointed for the first few minutes after multi-substitutions.
Looking forward to Wednesday.
