GRIMSBY MATCH IN DOUBT Frozen Amlin Stadium pitch - to be inspected tonight Friday evening's Blue Square Bet Premier Division fixture between Braintree Town and Grimsby Town is in doubt following the severe cold weather over the past few days. The Amlin Stadium pitch has a light covering of frozen snow and, where there has been any thaw, the pitch is covered in thick ice as temperatures in Essex dropped to -8c overnight. Given that the temperature in Braintree is not forecast to rise above freezing either today (Thursday) or tomorrow (Friday) and that snow is forecast for both tomorrow (Friday) afternoon and evening, the Club have organised an early pitch inspection for 5.30pm this (Thursday) evening by a local referee. Braintree Town Chairman Lee Harding said: "We're disappointed because we were looking forward to welcoming both Premier Sports TV and our friends from Grimsby, but the weather has caused us problems once again. I always like to give ourselves every chance to get a pitch playable, but the extreme cold together with the forecast of snow suggests we're very unlikely to play."
DEVS STRENGTHENS IRON SQUAD Centre-forward joins - from Luton on loan Braintree Town manager Alan Devonshire has further strengthened his squad. He has signed Luton Town centre-forward Dan Walker on a short-term loan. The 22-year old striker will be with Iron until Saturday 23 February.

Not unexpected due to the weather conditions. Bl**dy shame as I was looking forward to seeing Assy Thomas again.
The first of many to be postponed this weekend I would have thought.

Why do we keep taking players on a months loan? Surely to get any benefit we need to organise at least a 3-6 month period. Gash being a classic example; started to do well then returned to Cambridge thus keaving us in the lurch because Marksy hadn't played for a month. I understand Gashy only came to us to get match fit so it was only going to be a short loan but it looks like Luton don't fancy Dan Walker so potentially we could have got him for longer.
