An interesting article at the papers online site:
Quote: Meanwhile, Devonshire admits he has been left confused by the Iron’s up and down recent form about how much business he needs to do in the January transfer window.
He added: “You look to bring players in thinking where you need to strengthen and then see how good the performance at Tamworth was last Saturday.
“You think there isn’t a lot wrong, but after the Macclesfield game you’re left thinking that you want half a dozen to comeA in.
“I seem to be scratching my head all the time at the moment.”
“We can only afford a certain type of player anyway and you can’t keep going and grabbing players from lower leagues.
“They won’t make that much of a difference so I’ll have to wait and see and perhaps have a chat with the chairman.” Unquote.
I suppose us fans would have to agree with most of that. The lack of consistency and the nature of our losses appear to derive from an imbalance of inexperienced players in the team. It'd be nice to see more mature heads who can settle the nerves of the youngsters, when things are not going to plan.
What must be compounding matters financially is our poor home form. We're one of the smallest towns in the competition, so we really can't afford to perform so badly at the Amlin or the uncommitted won't bother coming back. Devs needs money to bring in decent players, so he's caught in a catch 22. We have good and promising young players at the club, but if they don't perform to their peak potential they won't get noticed by big clubs. Income derived from profitably trading players would of course be another way for the Club to balance the books.
Top sides win as many points by coming back from early setbacks in matches, as they do when they've netted the first goal. How many times have we seen this happen with Chelski or Man U? Anyway, it's much more exciting for the spectators when your team comes from behind to grab the points.
So heads up lads and take control of Telford and never ever give up while wearing a Braintree shirt, great team work and endurance has been the Braintree brand through the years.
