www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=62379&p=3&topicID=28910015Not sure how reliable this is, he's been in talks with Welling & Bishops Stortford and not agreed terms with either. Probably just out of those two clubs budgets after theyve made some big name signings this summer while Chelmsford have signed no-one and let go ALOT of good players. I would imagine Craig Holloway will sign for them too, a statement on the CCFC forum said that FIVE new signings would be announced at some point today

It's a shame to see Craig join Chelmsford, if he does. With the teams who have been linked (Bristol Rovers, Aldershot, Hereford, Charlton and AFC Wimbledon) it's a real shame that he may still be playing in the Blue Square South (especially for our main rivals).
I wish Craig the best of luck though as he's a top class keeper who deserves to be in the Football League and I would imagine come 2010/11 he will be there.

Hocton - Chelmo seems the odds on as they have realsed Minton & James to free up some cash.

Given that Craig said he only left Braintree to give himself the chance to play at a higher level, it seems strange that he would want to go to Chelmsford. It can't be for the money, surely? As for Hockers, good luck to him. A great striker when the ball came to his feet, but a yard either side and he was struggling. It's all about opinions, but I believe we can/are/have spent our money more wisely.

Craig Holloway is currently training with Brentford.

Chances are Craig has got the offer from Chelmsford stuffed in his back pocket and now has the luxury of being able to go and do a bit of preseason training with a league club before weighing up his options.
He's too good for this level thats for sure but i guess it depends if Brentford can get close to what Chelmsford would be offering money wise.

There was a rumour on the Chelmsford forum that they were no longer interested in Craig due to his wage demands. He had a trial at Aldershot at the end of last season, played a few games in their reserve side so thats another possible destination.

I think every club and player plays games when it comes to negotiating a deal and thats probably how any club would spin it if a player didn't sign immediately. There aren't too many clubs who wouldn't be interested in Craig so the ball is in his court and I'm sure he won't be short of offers. He deserves the chance to play at a higher level and we all know he was a class apart from anyone else who pulled on a yellow shirt last season.
The fact of the matter is that at the top of the semi-pro game the wages are higher than at the bottom of the pro game. If someone offered me the same (or even more) money to only work Tuesday nights, Thursday nights and Saturdays I'd jump at the chance and the players can then top up their wages working part-time as well.

the way you play dav, you should pay us to watch ;D
This is the old chestnut about the sensible non league players that have another job & use their football money as bunce & those that rely on it. The former are usually more reliable & preferred by a lot of fans.

It appears not a lot came from Brentford as Holloway played for Chelmo yesterday!

How refreshing it is to see a player move on because of an obvious desire to play at the highest possible level rather than just for the money.

Cynical, moi? Au contraire number 4.
My limited understanding is that Craig dismissed any offer from Braintree for next season out of hand, not because of any financial reasons, but because of his desire to play at a higher level. From here-say, I believe trials followed at Aldershot, Hereford and more recently Brentford. Good luck to him from me.
Then I compare that with our 'Tiny' - a lad who has already played nearly 150 games for the club and who wants to play for us.
Having got to know both lads last season, I know which of the two I'd rather go 'over the top' with!

Will be interesting to see what happens with Nathan MacDonald because from what i've seen in preseason he appears to be quite useful. The ball he plucked out of the air from a corner at Sudbury defied his supposed lack of height!

Without knowing the facts I am not going to criticise Holloway at all, the only thing I am disappointed about is that he didn't get a shot at a pro club because I think we all saw last season that he was good enough.
If he's gone for more money then personally I can't blame him, I'd be a hypercrite if I said I wouldnt change jobs in an instant if someone offered me more to do what I do for a living. I'd rather he hadn't gone down the road, simply cos I'd rather not face him next year, but given the probs he has had with injuries I don't think anyone would begrudge him the chance to earn a decent wage if the pro thing didnt come off.
If it wasn't for the fact that he'd signed for Chelmsford we wouldn't even be having this discussion, and in Nicky we have a keeper is has proved he is more than capable at this level. Given the overhaul that Garv's has given the squad it may well be that he couldn't wait to see what happened with Craig's pro trials, but as I said without knowing the facts I'm not going to speculate.

From what I'm hearing about the state of their pitch iron4, I think some of the craters left by the shot putt and javelin could be above 25 metres on their own! One of the many problems at playing at that God-forsaken location I suppose. Bottom line, I agree with Dav'o that it's 'good luck' to Craig, but I'm happy we've got our Tiny. I think it was a shrewed move by the club that he was signed up as long ago as last March for this season. It's just that I find Craig's assertion that he wanted to play at a higher level does not sit comfortably with him now signing for a club that are in our own league? From what I hear from some players that have played there (or dodged the javelins!) - and how they have been treated - he may well have gone backwards! Time will tell I suppose. So, to finish off, it's a last good luck to Craig from me, I think he might need it.
