CHELMSFORD City manager Jeff King has moved upstairs to the boardroom as the club's director of football, the Essex Chronicle can reveal. Jeff, who will leave the day-to-day running of the team and players to head coach Glen Pennyfather, relinquishes his manager's role immediately but will oversee the whole of the club's footballing side, from the juniors through to the first team. City will not be filling the manager's role with Pennyfather taking charge of team selection and tactics. Club chairman Mansell Wallace said today: "The changes are with immediate effect and we're glad to have Jeff join us on the board. "The manager's position will not be filled but Glen will be in charge of team affairs and of course Jeff will be on hand to still liaise and help him." "This is all part of continuing to build the club for the long term future and obviously we are looking to gain promotion to the Conference Premier next season and believe this new set up will further help," he added. King said: "I'm delighted to be joining the board in becoming director of football at the club and am really looking forward to next season already." -------------- I thought Glen was the one screwing up last season!

Your money yes, but you, as manager, no! This is not the end. It is not the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning ...

It was obvious that Fat Jeff had his coup underway when he and the former Chairman had their falling out. You might expect the manager to be shown the door but instead we saw the Chairman ousted. So it can be no surprise to hear Fat Jeffs now sitting on the board of directors (literally) and probably calls all the shots as well.

If the first half of the seasons form was the same as the second half then Chelmsford would now be back in the Ryman. Money bags King would have been booted out, but they would struggle to survive without the money he's pumping in.
