If this is true it is a disaster.
The problems we had, in my view, was to motivate one or two of the players and to change the team tactics to get rid of two problems we had most of the season, the long ball stuff, and the slowing down at the end of the match and letting in late, and usually, winning goals.
To clear most of the team out, including the best players is a step too far for me. We will miss Louie, Billy and Mark hugely.
It looks as though we may be having an almost new team next season, and that in my book does not look too promising!

If this is true then to lose Burgess would be a mistake a top fottballer at this level, tbh not as bothered by Riddle going and I wonder if Jones has injury problems ? that said would keep both if price was right

At the end of the day we have to trust Robbie to assembly a squad in his eyes is capable of challenging for promotion to the conference national. He is being paid to manage the club not us. Some decisions will not always be popular especially when popular players are released or decide that they want to move on.

It would be a huge shame if they do decide to go especially Billy because the amount of goals he stops is fantasic and i just can't see Braintree replacing Billy with a player just as good. . Please stay ;D and hopefully they might change their minds.

From today's B&WT:
Iron boss Garvey ready to strengthen squad
Braintree Town manager Robbie Garvey will step up his efforts to strengthen his squad after releasing five players.
The Iron manager is in talks with a number of potential new signings, as he makes changes to his personnel, ahead of next season.
Having held talks with Garvey earlier this month, Danny Hockton, Wayne O’Sullivan, Chris Piper, Micky Shinn and Gareth Williams have all been released by the Cressing Road club.
Boss Garvey is keen to bolster his squad, particularly with younger players.
He is now discussing terms with the rest of the players in the Braintree squad, along with players he would like to sign from outside of the club.
He said: “It’s a case of us being a bit brave and perhaps biding our time.
“We’re not in a position like other clubs to go in with big offers “But there’s no need to panic.
“It’s a case of doing right by the players and the clubs concerned, especially if they are contract.”
Garvey admitted it was a difficult task telling certain players that their services were no longer required.
“I was at Dagenham at four years and telling boys they are no longer wanted is the worst part of the job,” he said. “But it has to be done.
“I can’t lie to players and I have to be honest with them.”
Braintree have announced another pre-season friendly.
The Iron will travel to play Ryman League division one north side East Thurrock United on Thursday, July 30.
The game, which is one of six pre-season friendlies for Iron, kicks off at 7.45pm.
Braintree Town will hold a public exhibition tonight (Wednesday) to give an update on their new stadium.
The exhibition, which takes place at Braintree Town Hall, will outline concept plans and proposals for the stadium, which is planned for land west of the Town, off Pod’s Brook Road.
The exhibition runs between 2pm and 8pm.

Ive never really understood Robbie. I dont understand why he sits in the stand and shouts constantly, and then comes down after about 20 mins? Why does he not just stand in the dugout?
Dont understand why he is signing unproven youngsters when alot of the teams in this league are extremly physical.
Dont understand why he is not bothering to sign players like billy and jonesy when they have been great every season.
Just hope that he doesnt bring in anymore youngsters and realease more players from the current sqaud. Any news on players like marksy, moran, bruce, hawes, quinton, burnsey? Hope they sign.
Every year the manager makes a mistake and brings in players that are not good enough for this league.... Is this going to be another year?

I don't think signing young players that have only played in youth and reserve teams is the right to do either. He has to buy experienced players that knows what its like to play in this league.

arguably (when fit) Burgess and Jones are amongst the best full backs in the league and will be sorely missed...clearly we just do not have spending power it would seem I thought Baker would have been first to come back with us realising two proven forwards..........if it is true we will struggle next year..........this is the first pre-season since the last budget cut when embery was here. This is already looking awful lets hope robbie can prove us all wrong it seems we want to try and replaced the higher earners with bargain basement unproven talent ..........
Louis, whilst can be a little inconsistent when confident is awesome and a top fella as well he will be missed greatly...........

It is a shock they left but also no surprise. 3 very talented players.
Were they released or did they not agree pay cut terms.
Lets hope they play in BSS or higher and not drop down a league.
Good luck to them all.

BraintreeHammer registered in may.. Why would you register after the seasons finished?
You seem to no alot about the new signings and Garvey when we havent heard anything... Be interesting to find out who you are?
I hope Garvey isnt bringing in Dagenham and Redbridge youngsters just to develop them as i believe Garvey has an eye on the Dagenham job baring in mind john stills age!
Hope he manages for us and not make us become a feeder club for them.

With the budget being cut losing three of the higher payed players can be no coincidence, it's not so much that these players have gone although they will be undoubtably be missed, It's now about who comes in to replace them.

THIS IS TRUE BEEN TOLD BY THE RESERVE MANAGER, MARK SANSOM Louis Riddle, Mark Jones & Billy Burgess have left the club If this is true why is this info coming via the backdoor from the reserve Manager and not through the proper channels i.e. The Official website, here on the forum by a club official or dare I say it - by press release? I can see from another posting that there's some text copied and pasted from the Braintree & Wit site, this info is quite irrelevant as none of the players in question get a mention. Are the players leaving? are negotiations ongoing? Why is the speculation allowed to flourish? This issue needs to be addressed out of respect to us all, especially the personnel involved.

I joined late but have been reading for a while. am a great fan of local football. been watching youth football for years. yes i know plenty why im a good contact on forum. To be honest i know nothing about dag/red thing you mention. im sure he will do best he can although i dont agree with some things managers do. most essex clubs is all about the budget at mo or an excuse to use this. Players who are experianced always try looking else where in closed seasons and stay where they are if can,t do better. Time has come where managers can pick up young quality for a good cheap weekly rate, its no secret about info youth its on clubs websites, read southends for example. Christ i could be a bloody good scout for managers as i find placements a joy .

Here we go again, this time slagging off a manager before the season has even started!!
The simple fact of life is that Braintree have very low crowds, boosted only by away supporters for bigger clubs. The income is low. The Directors have poured lots of their own money into the club, but they are not immune from the financial crisis. We can only afford low wages and realistically we are only in the market for young hungry players. Robbie's task will be to mould them into a successful team and his track record in this respect looks very good.
The problem is that we the fans have been spoiled by our success over the last few seasons. We have done fantastically well and players like Louis, Billy and Mark were crucial to that success. However, if we want the club to continue and not go under like Fisher (and no doubt one or two others), we must accept that the team is going to be re-built and the last thing the club is people starting to moan and complain already.

Hold on a mo son! Where do ya get the idea we're such a small club. You need to visit a few other grounds and see how few are there, try Thurrock or Hayes & Yeading for starters. No we're a quite typically sized club for the Connie south and please stop putting us down. Billy if ya thinking of leaving us - don't!

I think getting rid of the whole team is not a great way to start a new season.
So far we no of 8 players that have supposidly left the club. I just dont want to see anymore go!
These players got us to the playoff final in the conf south.. Why get rid of them all?

No i don't want to see anymore go. With the players still here and new players joining, the pre season friendlies are very important.
I'm looking forward to it.
Who knows in 11 months time we might be saying well done robbie.

Afternoon all!
First I think we need to take stock of where we are. The last five years have brought us four promotion chasing years (including a championship!) and one season of consolidation. I think we'd all have taken that after our disastrous 2003-04 campaign!
We have never been, and I don't think ever will be, a 'big spending' club. When we won the Ryman League, I believe we had a top-six (in that league) budget and have had a mid-table budget in the Conf South since. Shrewd decisions and some hard work have made the difference, up until last season. What went wrong? Well, last summer our manager took the decision to go for what he believed to be quality players and a relatively small squad but, as we all know, it didn't work out as well as we'd hoped. With the downturn in the economy, last season was a poor one for the Club financially and your Board have had to work very hard to keep things on an even keel. But we have succeeded; we remain debt free.
We start to prepare for the coming season and we all know that money is going to be tight. So we took the decision to reduce our budget so that our expenditure once again matches our projected income. That is the Board's responsibility and sensible unless you wish to follow a club that flirts with insolvency! We have not 'slashed' the budget, we've not become a 'bargain basement club' overnight. No.
What your Board have done is to cut our cloth. Although our expenditure on players will drop by about 15-20%, the cuts being made by the other SENSIBLE clubs will probably see our position in a 'Conf South budget league' maintained or even improved. The clubs that are not reviewing their expenditure this summer could well follow the path of our friends at Fisher.
Last season we supported the manager's decision to go with a small squad made up of the best players we could afford. Unfortunately this was not successful and the buck stops in the Board Room. This season, in appointing Robbie Garvey, we have made a fundamental policy switch to play a longer-term game. To bring in perhaps younger players who still have the hunger and desire to play at a higher level and see their time at Braintree as a possible stepping stone back to a higher level, just like Alex Revell did.
As with all close seasons, players come and go and we make a variety of offers. Robbie had the last six games to take a quick look at who was here and made his decisions. The Board back him 100%. Mindful of the reduced playing budget, he also offered what he felt the Club could afford to other players. Some have accepted that, some are still considering their options and some will reject those offers. That is their prerogative, players always look after number one and that's just as it should be.
Unfortunately, as a consequence of that, old friends will move on to new challenges, but not without regret I'm sure. For example, last night I had a lengthy chat with Mark Jones who we all have a lot of time and respect for. He told me that he had been frustrated by the number of injuries he suffered last season and, despite that, really appreciated the offer that Robbie had made to him to stay for next season. However, he told me that he felt it was time for a change and I respect and understand that. He asked me to pass on to you all his thanks and best wishes and said that he had really enjoyed his eight years with the Club. Mark will always be welcome back at Cressing Road and I'm sure you will join me in wishing him well.
So we encourage those players we value to stay, but you must understand that we cannot make them stay. Departures from the 'family' are a shame but for every player that decides the grass is greener elsewhere, that 'cloud' has a silver lining in that it frees up resources for Robbie to offer to new players and this process is underway. We hope to sign two players this evening and when that process is complete we will let you know.
What has not been done properly is the way that certain items of information have been released over the past few days. The Club are currently working through a re-organisation of leagues in which both our reserves and youth team play. We have different plans and these are being worked on as we speak. Obviously confidential information is passed on between the first team manager and those that are working with him, but it is a matter of regret to me that Mark Sansom has passed information on to third parties, while negotiations with players are still on-going. I understand that Robbie and Mark have already discussed this today and I will be having a chat with Mark about it myself.
There have been some emotive comments on here and, of course, the purpose of this forum is to air views, but the stability and progress of the Club is paramount. After last season's poor performance, there is indeed work to be done, but no player leaving will ever be a 'disaster' for this Club. What has befallen Fisher is a 'disaster', while players (love them as we do while their part of our family) come and go.
Robbie is using our money wisely and working very hard and will be given time. Us Braintree supporters from the Board Room to the terraces have much to look forward to and appreciate. We are and will remain competitive, debt free and have a supportive local authority about to endorse a new stadium for the Club in their Core Strategy.
OK, a few old friends have decided to move on but, from where I started five years ago, things are still looking up!
