Maidstone United v Braintree Town
Another away trip for Braintree on Tuesday evening; this time to Kent, where the new Iron boss will come up against two time former boss Hakan Hayrettin.
Maidstone currently sit in ninth place on the VNLS table having played twelve games and have nineteen points; that is the same position they finished in last season.
Top goal scorers for the Stones last season were Ibby Akanbi with 11 goals, Dan Wishart (now at Wealdstone) with 9 goals and Matt McLure (now Gloucester City) with 10 goals.
The Stones made it to the third qualifying round of the F. A. Cup, beating Hendon away one-nil, and then drew two-two at Wimborne Town, losing three-one on penalties.
They remain in the F. A. Trophy after beating Poole Town two-nil and Dorking Wanderers two-one both at home.
From their twelve League games this season, they have five wins, four draws and three defeats.
At home their record is P 5 W 3 D 1 L 1 GF 13 GA 5 Points 10.
Home results so far (earliest game first) W 2-1 v Welling United, W 4-1 v Hemel Hempstead Town, W 6-0 v Concord Rangers, L 0-2 v Dartford, D 1-1 v Billericay Town.
Leading scorers this season are Charlie Seaman, Scott Rendell and Joan Luque all with five goals.
Their home webpage doesn’t give any player profiles, but their scorers this season include former Iron players Joe Ellul, Sam Corne, Justin Amaluzor. George Elokobi is the club captain and Christie Pattison is also on their books.
Last season the sides met on 8 February 2020 and Maidstone took all three points with a sixteenth minute goal from Justin Amaluzor. The season before saw the Iron then managed by Danny Searle, who had stepped up when Hakan left for Kent, leave victorious. An early penalty in the second minute, won and taken by Mo Sagaf saw Braintree on their way, but they had to wait for the second clinching goal. With five minutes left and when the game needed slowing down, keeper Ben Killip broke up a Stones attack before quickly launching a long goal kick down the park which was collected by Korrey Henry who then bustled his way through to score.
Another close game against Slough Town on Saturday saw the young Iron team denied a well-deserved point conceding an injury time winner. Their luck needs to change sooner than later if they are to make strides to climb the table.
