Billericay Town v Braintree Town
Thirteen days after their F A Trophy victory on penalties; Braintree Town return to the New Lodge for a bottom of the table derby. Ruben Soares-Junior had given the hosts the lead on 66 minutes, before Arjanit Krasniqi equalised for the Iron 13 minutes later. The penalty shoot-out ended 4-2.
Billericay Town are currently in 19th place on 8 points from 9 games, whilst bottom placed Braintree have 7 points from their 10 games.
Billericay have still to appoint a new manager, Danny Brown remains in temporary charge.
Billericay have not played any games since that Trophy defeat. Meanwhile, the Iron played another tie that saw them eliminated from the competition, going down 1-0 to Havant & Waterlooville.
Billericay’s last five League results are (latest game first) – Home v Hampton & Richmond Borough lost 2-6, Away v Maidstone United 1-1, Away v Welling United 2-2, Home v Slough Town won 2-0 and Away v Hemel Hempstead won1-4.
Braintree’s last five League results are – Home v Welling United 1-1, Away v Tonbridge Angels won 0-2, Home v Concord Rangers won 1-0, Away v Eastbourne Borough lost 4-0 and Away v St Albans City lost 2-1.
The game at the New Lodge last season took place on 7 March 2020 on a damaged pitch with many parts having no grass. The hosts lead 1-0 at half time through Connor Shields. Liam Smyth levelled with a great strike on 66 minutes. In the closing stages Braintree lost Kyran Clements to a bad head wound which saw Noel-Williams shown a red card. The Iron were unable to hold on for the point with Ronnie Henry scoring a winner in the third minute of added time.
With games falling foul of the weather and covid in recent weeks, this promises to be another battling encounter with both sides looking to climb their way up the League table. We wish Ryan and the boys well as they look to establish the bragging rights in this local rivalry.
