F A Trophy Round 2
Tuesday 15 December 2020
Billericay Town v Braintree Town
Braintree Town visit local rivals Billericay Town as both teams enter this season’s F A Trophy competition at the second round. Neither team has made a good start to the current League season with Braintree currently occupying 21st place on 7 points and Billericay two places higher on 8 points. The poor start by Billericay has seen them part company with player/manager and former Spurs player Jamie O’Hara.
Last season, Braintree went out at the first time of asking at home to Yate Town. Jason Banton had given the Iron the lead after just 35 seconds. Yate equalised through a 71st minute penalty scored by Britton, who then went on to grab the winner for the visitors.
Billericay Town also exited the competition in the same round, losing 2-1 at home to Hampton & Richmond Borough, Jake Robinson scoring for Town.
Billericay have had five home League games so far this season where they have won one; 2-0 v Slough Town, and lost the other four; 0-2 v Tonbridge Angels, 1-2 v Havant & Waterlooville, 1-2 v Ebbsfleet United and 2-6 v Hampton & Richmond Borough.
They had started their season with a 6-0 away win in the F A Cup against Grays Athletic. Their run continued against National League side Boreham Wood who they beat at home 2-0. They finally succumbed to Brackley Town on penalties 4-2 after the game had ended in a 2-2 draw.
Last season Jake Robinson fired in 20 goals for Ricay and is well underway again this season with 9. Former Iron player Jai Reason is second top scorer with 2 goals, four other have one goal.
Last season’s VNLS meetings between the two teams saw Billericay run out winners on both occasions in two close games.
Braintree will be looking to extend their recent unbeaten run against their Essex rivals in what promises to be another close game.
