Braintree Town v Oxford City
After playing nine games so far, Oxford City are currently 11th in the VNLS table on 12 points.
Last season they were in 12th place when the season came to its early conclusion.
Oxford City are one of two VNLS sides to progress to the second round of the F A Cup. Their journey started at Wootton Bassett United where they beat the hosts 2-1. Next up was a home tie against Tamworth who they thrashed 6-1. They were on their travels again in the next round to beat National League Weymouth 3-2 to progress to Round One proper. There they hosted EFL1 team Northampton Town where they got a shoe in to Round Two virtue of a 2-1 win. Their great run came to an end last Sunday when they were unable to tame the Shrews going down 1-0.
Their League form has been mixed with 3 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats to date. The last 6 results were (most recent result last): H v Hampton & RB lost 0-1, A v Havant & Waterlooville lost 2-1, H v Chippenham Town drew 1-1, H v Eastbourne Borough drew 1-1, A v Dorking Wanderers lost 3-2, A v Hungerford Town won 4-1.
Leading the goal charts last season was Zac McEachran with 10 goals and Nana Owusu with 7 goals.
Already on 10 goals this season is James Roberts who signed this season from Spennymoor Town and behind him with 6 goals is midfielder Josh Ashby and on 4 goals is former Millwall U23 striker Harvey Bradbury.
A face known the Iron faithful is Dan Matsuzaka who netted in the first game of the season at Wootton Bassett.
Last season Braintree recorded a win double over City. The home game on 28 September 2019 was decided in the 34th minute by an Ade Cole penalty.
An interesting encounter awaits at Cressing Road where new management team Ryan Maxwell and Nicky Symons have overseen two wins that have took the Iron off the foot of the table and the team are now joint on 6 points with Welling United and Concord Rangers.
Top scorer for the Iron with 2 goals, Romario Dunne left the club this week to join Hullbridge Sports.
Here’s hoping the new charges can make it three wins in a row.
