Braintree Town v Dorking Wanderers
Dorking Wanderers currently sit top of the table having won their two opening fixtures against Eastbourne Borough away (3-0) and Slough Town at home (3-1). They weren’t so fortunate against Eastbourne in the F A Cup on home soil. The tie ended 3-3 and Borough went through 4-3 on penalties.
Hitting the net five times already is Jason Prior; he was top scorer last season with 16 goals. Last season’s next highest scorer was Jack Barham (now at Dartford) with 11 goals. Finding the net twice this season is Alfie Rutherford; he scored ten last season for Havant & Waterlooville
Other newcomers include former Gillingham right back Barry Fuller, Wes Fogden also from Havant & Waterlooville and goalkeeper Sam Howes from Woking.
Pointless Braintree Town currently sit bottom of the table having lost their two opening League fixtures at home to Ebbsfleet United (3-0) and away to Chippenham Town last Saturday (1-0). Other teams yet to record a league win are Welling United, Hemel Hempstead and Billericay Town.
Midweek saw their F A Cup adventure come to a premature end as lower league and local rivals Maldon & Tiptree triumphed at Cressing Road courtesy of an Andre Hasanally goal in the seventy fifth minute.
Last season’s encounter between these two teams came on 26 August 2019 at Cressing Road.
Jason Banton put the Iron ahead on 36 minutes only for Elliott Buchanan to equalise five minutes later. Two minutes into the second half and the visitors lead through Tom Richards. Tyler Christian-Law equalised on the hour before a 90th minute winner from Femi Akinwande secured all three points for the home side.
It’s still early days and mostly a new squad finding their way but with only one goal scored in the cup against Hashtag United, the Iron will be hoping to get up and running against a team that will be looking to surpass their seventh placed finish last season.
