We have all seen hundreds of players pull on the Iron shirt over the years. Every so often a players name comes up that we forget played for us. I'm sure if we come up with some names Jonw will be able to furnish us with some appearances and goal stats! I'll start off with a couple I thought of recently.

I'll start off with a high profile yet at the same time obscure one, Phil!
Chris Whyte - won the 1991-92 old First Division title with Leeds United - the last one before the FA Premier League came into existence.
The Evening Gazette of 12th July 1999 reported:
Soccer: Whyte signing right for Iron
"Football League championship medal winner Chris Whyte will be one of a number of new faces when Braintree Town kick-off their new Ryman League season in a few weeks' time. And their first big test will be against Roy McFarland's full Cambridge United promotion winning squad in an attractive pre-season friendly at Cressing Road tomorrow week.
Whyte, a vastly experienced former Arsenal, West Bromwich Albion and Charlton defender who won his League winners medal with Leeds United in 1991-92, is joining the Iron as manager Richie Powling's player-assistant manager. Also holder of a Division Two winners medal, the former England Under 21 international will combine his coaching and assistant manager's role with that of player. Whyte, 38, was last season playing for Nationwide Conference title chasers Rushden and Diamonds."
The former England U21 didn't make a competitive appearance for The Iron - turning out in friendlies v Mildenhall Town (a), Cambridge United (h) and Billericay Town (h), before leaving the club.

That brilliant! I actually remember him playing for Leeds but not the Iron. A gangly centre half if memory serves. Did he play many games?

I reckon 1999-2000 alone could produce quite a few people for this thread - with a quick count, I make it 78 players across competitive games and friendlies that season!
Looking forward to reading the replies to your post, PP!

The last one for the evening is Roy Essandoh. A cult hero for Wycombe Wanderers fans for whom he answered a ceefax plea for strikers from manager at the time Lawrie Sanchez. He came off the bench to score the winner at Leicester and send WW to the semi finals of the 2001 FA Cup. Aside from his glorious moment above, largely a journeyman footballer. I believe his appearances in Iron colours were limited to pre season friendlies.

I remember when Tony Hall and Phil Boyland asked me to go to Ipswich hotel with them to make a signing. Sitting in bar and Simon Milton walked in. 14 days earlier simon was in team for Ipswich who played Man United. He had been offered a job on Ipswich's Corporate side and would be free to play for any other team mid week, as long as that team did not pick him when Ipswich were at home. Simon played for us, I remember ringing East Anglican Press and advising them of our signing. You can guess they did not believe me till I gave them Simons telephone number to confirm . We played our rivals Wealdstone the following week .Great Signing for a lower league club. Simon still keeps in touch now and again.

Great story Barry. One of the most skillful players I've seen in an Iron shirt!
