According to the official website and forum, braintree and witham times and other websites Goodacre, Champion, Holloway, Peters, Burbridge, Brayley, Dumas, Duncan and Mingle (According to Conf South website) have left the club.
So after recent signings on club website and retained players listed in the braintree and witham times this seems to be the squad so far for next season:
Nick Morgan - back for preseason according to B&W times Nathan McDonald - according to B&W times is set to stay Michael Alaile - signed Ryan Doyle - signed Sam Holloway - signed Mark Jones - signed according to B&W times Joe Bruce - verbal agreement to stay according to B&W times Adam Bailey-Dennis - back for preseason according to B&W times Reece Harris - back for preseason according to B&W times Phil Starkey - according to B&W times is set to stay even though i beleived he had left Brad Quinton - according to B&W times is set to stay Robbie Martin - according to B&W times is set to stay Tom Bruno - according to B&W times is set to stay Kenny Davis - signed Nicky Symonds - signed Martin Tuohy - signed Sean Marks - according to B&W times is set to stay George Purcell - option taken up on contract
So the squad looks like it is coming together if all the above is right, the only players who arent mentioned above are Mike Power (the B&W times says Rod wants him to stay) and Matt Game. Any one got any news on Matt Game?

I'd have Nathan over Nick Morgan everyday of the week. Fair enough bringing Nick back but I wouldnt expect him to last very long.
The Aveley keeper is coming over for pre-season too

Can't agree with CM7. You must be related to Nathan! Nick Morgan has a good record for us & even though he has had his moments, his other qualities make up for them. If it were not for Holloway, who is a better keeper, Nick would have played a lot more for us.

Nick makes far too many mistakes, he's had his time and the mistakes he makes are regular. Somebody said they do not lead to goals, but its only a matter of time before one does. You cannot afford to have a keeper who makes mistakes.

All goalkeepers make mistakes cm7 even England internationals (ie.Seaman against Ronaldinho and Paul Robinsons mis kick ) but for me Nickys weakness is his distribution of the ball, always a hoof up the middle instead of looking around for other options. I would be really surprised if Louis has returned from Stortford as his last appearance for them was the match against us on New Years day. Wether that was down to injury I dont know.

Robinsons miss-kick was more of the bobble though, not really his fault.
But even for a guy of Nick's height (6ft 7 isnt it) he doesnt command his area too well from what I've seen and isnt very assertive at coming out to collect crosses (very much the same as David Blackmore when we had him in between the sticks). I think Nathan deserves a fair crack, he spent all of last season the bench and made 3 appearances, I think he should play most of the pre-season games to get a chance to show what he can do. We have got 3 keepers to choose from so Rod will have some thinking to do.

I spoke to Louis after the game against Stortford and think it's quite possible that he has signed for us.

So Nick's left then? No big miss from where I'm standing. Hawes is a good player but we'll have alot of wingers if him and Louis do definately sign on. www.nonleaguedaily.com/news/index.php?&newsmode=FULL&nid=67556 This report says young FC Clacton centre-back Chris Ribchester is coming in on trial over pre-season, I think he was the first player Clacton ever put on a contract a couple of seaons ago.

No doubt he's a good player but the way Reece played last season do we really need 3 left-wingers?
They can both play left-back but we've got Holloway and Jones there. Going for a big squad next season by the looks of things

Cm7 - Hawesy was never an out and out winger and played quite narrow like Gameo did for us last season. Talking of which both are very similar players and if gameo has gone (a tad disappointing) the HAWESY 'HUNDRED PERCENT' will be a great like for like replacement he will literally go through a brick wall for the Iron !!! Riddle back will be good but will need to prove his fitness as injury has blighted the last few seasons of his career since being one of our champions in 2005-2006. Lou's also a super chap to boot. Pleased we have kept Reece who will hopefully benefit from Rod's exciting sounding all out attack strategy................I am also glad the Starkey has got a fair crack as well thought he showed promise and good commitment last year despite being a 'bit part player'
Hopefully Robbie will regain his sharpness after a good pre-season and him and Reece/Louie flying down the wings supplying the ammunition must be in Rod's plans...........be very interesting to see our style after a few pre-season games.............

Hawes will still mainly take a left-midfield spot though, meaning Harris, Riddle and Hawes will all be competiting for one spot. For me, it has to be two of three. Having all 3 would be expensive and would definately deny at least 1 a regular starting berth.
Having Reece on the left is by far our best option, the pace he brings to our team is a vital part of our play.

The squad is really starting to take shape now. It's good the messages have gone from we need a player in that position to which player will the manager pick for that position. A bit of competition for places is needed and good cover needed.

May be I am not paying attention, but I am not seeing George "Duracell" Purcell being mentioned as part of the squad or having moved elsewhere. I think I saw somewhere that an option on his contract was being taken up, but nothing since. Can anyone clarify the position?

I was a strong supporter of Hawsie, who I thought was given a raw deal by previous managers, despite always giving of his best. However, there is no denying that he was one-paced and he seemed unable to get better than being a good squad player. We all love Louis for his past performances for the Iron, but in the last two seasons (through injury) he was not the match-winning player he used to be. I do wonder whether bringing the two of them back would be a backward step to the team we had before the much stronger squad asembled by Robbie Garvey.

"With the budget cuts at Braintree Stringer couldn't afford to bring in another assistant manager in the shape of Eddie Grace, so he has elevated club captain, Brad Quinton to work alongside him and Keith Rowland in a coaching capacity as well as carrying on his playing duties."
Right i've now had enough of reading Grace (its actually CRACE) is not joining, when our official site and various other places have said he is. I actually started a thread on here so the chairman could confirm it either way but he did not get back to me. Iron Webbo could you confirm it either way because I'm pretty confused and perhaps we could notify papers/websites who are wrong.

Not being funny CM7 but what does it matter whether Eddie Crace has joined us or not, as with the rest of the squad the only thing that matters is the players we have at the beginning of the season and not the hoards who come in for preseason and never make the grade.
This isn't a pro club where everyone is contract, indeed I thought we got the balance of contracted / non-contracted players just about right last year. I would expect a first team squad of 18ish at anyone time with a handful of others dual signed but on BlueSquare papers with us.

Well dav I'd just like to know who is on our coaching staff. As a fan of the club I'm interested in all aspects of the footballing side of things, including our staff.
And the coaching staff is a bit different to the players, not so much chopping and changing (especially when a new manager brings them in) so sometimes it takes a while to learn who they are. I'm just trying to find out really, I dont think that theres a problem with that or that being should start having a little pop at me for asking a question.
I'm fully aware this isnt a pro club aswell, and that not everyone is contracted. I know quite a few players in the Non-League game and not one is on a contract.

i believe i read in the essex chronicle a while back that the option for george purcell had been taken up. Also someone in another thread mentioned that the option had been taken up and that conf prem clubs and league clubs were having a look but no solid bids/high enough bids had been recieved.
Chairman could you answer this question Does the option mean George is staying or does it mean he also has the option,we seem to have 4+ strikers Marks,Power, averly player and George in the squad does this mean George may not play every game next season or are we paying wages to players that are going to be sitting in the stands watching week in week out as i have read that the striker from Averly is a great goal scorer, some what confused with the thought process. Budget reduction more players being paid to watch the game. Please could you give us an update of players and positions they play

It also said somewhere that Rod wanted a decent sized squad and would allow some players to be dual registered and loaned out to maximise cover for every position whilst being able to recoup some wages!!

i think it means like when a premiership team takes up an extra year of the contract of a player meaning that we have taken up the option on george's contract for him to stay next season unless a higher league club comes in for him

When george was signed last summer he was signed on a one year deal, with a club option for a second year I believe. From what I have read the club have taken up the option of the second year so he is contracted through to next Summer, however as with everyone of our players if somebody from higher up comes in and offers a deal that is in the best interest of the club and player then there is a chance he might move on, but until that happens expect to see him back for the start of preseason.
As for having four strikers, my own personal opinion is you need four, surviving on three is difficult given injuries, form, suspensions etc so seems a sensible ploy by the club. If all goes to plan one could end up out on dual terms but available for recall.
As for CM7, just didnt understand the urgency to find out thats all, it will all become clear in preseason I am sure and having had the chance to speak to Rod and Keith I know they'll be about in the bar after games for a chat and they seem thoroughly decent blokes.
