CLARETS SANK!
In another pulsating game, the Iron had to win it twice to make it to the play-off final. Angelo went with the same starting XI from Tuesday win over Bath City. Ass expected Chelmsford would start quickly with their up and at 'em style with Ruff having an early chance blocked by Grimwood. Braintree are trying to get their wide men away and Wakefiled gets past his man on the right and crosses low, but Blackwell is just beaten to the ball. Rendall is next to block a Ruff attempt as the two centre halves both will end up putting in a colossus performance. Wakefield presented with a chance as it comes to him at a good height to volley from 25 yards out, but his shot hits a defender. Braintree begin to wrestle the game away from the home side and get the ball down and play. From a Blackwell left wing free kick, the inswinger sees Berry in goal clawing the ball away from under the bar. From the corner the ball eventually comes to Blair on the far side of the area, he decides to drive for the box, but leaning back, curls his effort over. A fairly even first half ends goal less with neither keeper tested.
From the restart the home side are almost in, a ball forward is misjudged by Altintop and Chelmsford are through on goal, but Rendall comes to the rescue with an excellent block. Braintree quickly counter and Blair is away down the left again he heads inside as under pressure in the area goes down as he's about to shoot but the ref waves play on. There's more control from the Iron now and after some good passing, Odusanya strides forward in the centre of the pitch and hits a low shot that slams into the hoardings. The reward for their controlled possession finally pays off, the initial ball into the box is cleared out to the left where it's gathered by Leon Davies, he controls it gets it out of is feet and let's fly and the ball sails into the far corner of the net. Ten minutes later and Blair sprints from his own half and outstrips a high back line, as he bears down on goal and the keeper comes to meet him his dink is touched away by the keeper and amazingly a goal kick is given. However a minute later and the Iron would double their lead, again breaking up Chelmsford's attack and a couple of interchanged passes later Sears is bearing own on goal on the left side of the area and he slots home under pressure into the far corner. Chelmo bring on winger Ody Aalfa and his pace and trickery start to cause problems down the Iron right. He gets in outstripping Altintop but it's a soft shot straight at Sims. Lambe comes on for Wakefield at 76 minutes. Chelmo send on more strikers and begin to pen the Iron in their own half. A big chance falls to Hockey following a corner the Iron let it bounce and it finds it's way to the striker who drags his shot wide from 8 yards out. Ten minutes to go and Alexander is n after more wing play involving Alfa but Sims is quickly off his line to smother. Braintree then give the ball away in their own half and suddenly it's 3v3 the cross comes to an unmarked Hockey at the near post but again he shoots wide. Sears is then replaced by Jayden Davis with 4 minutes to go. Sims comes to the rescue again as the corners begin to mount up and he gets a goal bound shot round the post. The creaking Iron defence finally gives way on 90 minutes, another corner, flicked on and Francis latches on to it to find the back of the net. Blackwell is then replaced by Missio as we try to shut up shot, with 5 minutes added on. Two minutes later and it's all square, another corner a flick on and Alexander powers a header home. Suddenly the Braintree fans who have been vocal throughout are stunned into silence, so it's extra time again.
Chelmsford have the first sight of goal but Rendall outs in yet another block. Braintree are back in control of the ball and Davis is given the ball out wide on the right e gets into the box and tries al eft footed shot which is blocked and away, but it's quickly recycled by Miccio on the left, again it falls for Davis, he tries his luck with his left foot again, this time a deflection sees it nestle in the back of the net. Blair is then set free by Lambe from the halfway line, he races forward but shoots wide. Into the second period of extra time and the Iron are more resilient. With 10 minutes to go, Altintop is replaced by Roberts causing a re-shuffle at the back. Chelmsford finally get a threat following a coner, there's an almighty goal mouth scramble in the 6 yard box with shots and blocks before it's finally hacked away. The Iron counter again with Roberts and Blair haring forward, the youngster goes past his man into th Chelmo half and is crudely hacked down. Two added minutes are shown and Davis breaks down the left, there's little support so he drives on, heading for goal, beats the last man and shoots left footed just inside the box and agonisingly just wide of the far post. In the final minute Blair is away again defenders in his wake he gets to the box and the advanced keeper blocks his effort. The whistle goes and the lads have done it again, they don't know when they're beaten.
Altogrther now - "You've done it again, you've done it again, Chelmsford City, you've done it again"!
