A goal by Danny Sparkes in the 9th minute was enough, then when Sean Marks was redcarded on 28 mins it was always going to be a holding game for Iron from that point on.
So that makes it three home league wins on the bounce, I wonder how long it's been since that happened - Jon Weaver?

Well done to the 10 men for 60 minutes of great endeavour. In the second half it was hard to tell who had 10 men, so much so that after about 10 minutes in, a guy from Ipswich Town asked why are we playing with 10 men! The goal when it came was a result of a poor low cross, which somehow managed to roll past numerous Welling defenders before making it's way across the 6 yard box to the trusty left peg of Dan Sparkes. The next incident of any note saw Marks dismissed for what appeared to me to be a flailing arm. Welling almost levelled with a spectacular long shot from the left back which left Crowe stranded as it thumped against the post. As mentioned earlier; the second half passed reasonably trouble free apart from another spectacular effort when a Welling forward latched on to a pass over the top and again managed to hit the woodwork. For a team in trouble and lacking height, I couldn't understand their tactics, especially leaving three men in their own half all the time. That doesn't detract from the effort of Akinola/Sparkes/Davis/Woodyard & Paine in their constant pressing of the Welling back line, making it possible for most of the game to be played in the middle of the pitch. The play-offs are calling!

Fantastic effort after the ref spoilt what should have been a more comfy win for us. With the next two fixtures being southport and boreham wood, things could well continue nicely.

AS I'm typing this watching match of the day. Some of the elbows going in are much worse than Sean Marks which lead to his sending off! The second half defensive play by the Iron was awesome. Great individual performances by Remy and Mark Phillips lead by captain courageous Kenny Davis.

What a gutsy performance from the team. 11 v11 we was looking at a 3-0 victory. I'm not going to comment on Sean's red card I'll look at the highlights. But credit to the Cowley bros who tactically got it spot on. Woody was premier league class in his effort. The side was epitomized yet again by Paine who squarely took a thunderbolt in the chest and never flinched. Truly made if iron!. Kenny looked quality in possession SIM and Dan never stopped and once again the defence held firm. Play offs here we come. Must give special praise to Bob and Steve cos the pitch looked quality considering state of after Saturday. Dare we dream??? Looking at this months fixtures it's possible. Keep up the excellent work everyone. COYI

It wasn't too long ago! Between 25th August and 15th September 2014 we neat Nuneaton 2-0, Bristol Rovers 2-0 and then Kidderminster Harriers 2-0 at home.

And our next six games are all against teams in the bottom half of the table. Can it continue, or will there be banana skins en route?

A better statistic would be - no goals conceded in our last 7 home matches
Grimsby 0-0 Dover 1-0 Macclesfield 1-0 Torquay 0-0 Wrexham 1-0 Chester 2-0 Welling 1-0
Over to you Jon, for any better runs than this.

I haven't got time to run through 100+ years at the moment. We used to play so many cup games between league fixtures that it'd take quite a bit of digging. However, I recall in my time watching the club that we had an awesome defence in 1974-75 and 1975-76. First, in 1974-75 we had this sequence of results (all competitions): Ely City (LC) 2-0 Gothic 3-0 Newmarket 0-0 Silver End (WEC) 2-0 Sudbury (LC - Abandoned 55m)2-0 Cambridge City Res. 0-0 Ely City 3-0 Histon 1-1 Sudbury Town 1-0 Norwich City 'A' 3-0 Gorleston 1-0
(Note - these results came after the club's worst ever pitch crisis!!)
Then this was the run of first 8 home league games at the start of the 1975-76 season:
Wisbech 0-0 Gorleston 2-0 Haverhill 3-0 Saffron Walden 4-0 Ely City 3-0 Lowestoft 2-0 Soham 7-0 Cambridge City Res 3-0
The first league goal was not conceded until 17th Feb and we only let in 5 at home all season from 18 games, and 23 in total.
Current press officer Dave Ward was in that defence.
If the current side keep a clean sheet against Boreham Wood I will delve further and see if 8 can be beaten!

Having seen the highlights I don't think there can be any complaints about the sending off it was a flailing leading arm and although Sean is a smashing bloke it was elbow to face end of. But having said that the referee didn't even see it from 5 yards, and the decision was clearly made by the assistant on the main stand side.
