Probably our worst performance of the season against a tall and sometimes bruising Southport side. Cant remember either keeper having a save to make apart from Dans winner which thankfully he failed to stop. The Ref was card happy in the 1st half and booked 5 Southport players (some deservedly) but in the 2nd period failed to even give a free kick against them when time after time their defence were continually wrestling both Simeon and Jordan to the ground as we attacked.
We have played better than today and lost, so although this was not pretty to watch I will take winning ugly against losing every time.

Surely the game against Lincoln was worse! Although we created few chances today I thought that the team worked hard in the hot sunshine. We started slowly but gradually got up to speed. Dan Sparkes piece of individual brilliance in scoring was good to watch. After that Braintree came into the game and had most of the possession for the rest of it. Simeon Akinola was frustrating to watch at times when he tried to do a too much by himself but I guess that's what makes him tick! At least in a game like this its that type of play which will help create scoring chances. The defence was solid again Tom Dallison fitted in well and Remy still impresses at every game. Dan Cowley seems to be getting an understanding of football at this level. The only worry is that his Concord Rangers imports have still not impressed.

An efficient performance where Southport never really got a look in, apart from one shot in the second half, fired across goal and wide of the post. Norris was guilty of bad judgement three times coming for crosses in a crowd of players and not making any contact with the ball. Very few chances created by Braintree and after an opening of un-enthralling football, Akinola rose well to set up Sparkes for a well hit half volley. Second half Sim should have set up Chiedozie on the counter, but went alone only to see his effort blocked. Lots of effort and endeavour from the front two with little supply and Paine did what Paine does best in nullifying any Southport attack. MOTM for me was Woodyard for a non-stop running performance on a very hot day, winning lots of ball and passing neatly.

On a side note, anyone else thought that this game should have been billed as the Health & Safety Hi-Vis shirt Derby?

Has anyone spotted a spelling mistake?

Too hot for great football. A win is a win is a win considering the conditions

Any win was welcome as our first one at home and to back up Tuesday's win. As for cowleys concord recruits fry looked good before his injury but we haven't really had a proper long look at the others

The only worry is that his Concord Rangers imports have still not impressed. Alex Woodyard has been one of the standout players for me so far.

Yes, sorry I overlooked Alex he has done well. He has a good engine and would be a good replacement for Kenny Davis's playing position should he not be available.

Possible midfield headache as we seem to have plenty of quality centre ones. With chez kenny Woodyard n it seems painey can't be left out as he makes us look so solid

As said above - good three points but not a great game. Great to have Simeon in the team; skilful, works hard , gets up for a lot of headers, but please someone persuade him to look up and not always try to do it all himself. As dbbn says he should have put Chiedozie in during the second half. Also saw the same situation against Tranmere when Remy ran the length of the field on a counter to get clear on the right. Sim again had a shot from some way out when a pass to Remy would have put him in with a great chance for a pass into the net.
Thought Southport looked like a load of yellow highlighter pens!!
