Iron boss wants squad sorted in time for Daggers visit
Friday 24 July 2015 - Braintree & Witham Times.
Braintree Town manager Danny Cowley expects to have his squad fully in place by the time they are next in pre-season action on home turf at Cressing Road.
The Iron boss will take his team on a mini tour this weekend as they head to Bury Town tonight (kick-off 7.45pm) and will remain together in Suffolk before a game at Lowestoft Town on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
And those fixtures will give Cowley the chance to finalise his plans as he wants to have his full squad in place ahead of Tuesday’s home game against League Two side Dagenham and Redbridge (kick-off 7.45pm).
He said he is still looking to bring another centre-half into the squad, but feels he is almost where he wants to be.
“We are getting there and we’ll be decided over the weekend,” said Cowley. “We are virtually there now.
“Friday (at Bury) and Saturday (at Lowestoft) are pretty unique and we’ll look at what times we give the boys on back-to-back days.
“You have to be a bit intelligent but then the last couple of games can be used to look more towards August 8 and the start of the season.”

Friday 24 July 2015 - Simon Spurgeon, Braintree & Witham Times.
Danny Cowley said he is in talks with Alex Woodyard about a possible move to Braintree Town.
The England C international midfielder, who was with Cowley at Concord Rangers last year, has been on trial at League Two side Leyton Orient but was released earlier this week without being offered a deal.
While Cowley is disappointed for the xx-year-old that it didn’t work out at the O’s, he is now hoping that he can bring him to the Iron.
He said: “We have spoken to Alex as he is someone who we really like.
“I look at him as a bit of unfinished business for us as he is someone who will get better and better and someone who will be a really successful Football League player.

“I feel disappointed for him (that it didn’t work out at Leyton Orient), but it is tough when you go on trial and it can be more about timing than anything else.
“He made giant strides with us last year and we would be really keen to work with him again."
Right-back Walker follows Cowley to Braintree
Right-back Jeremy Walker has joined Braintree Town.
Monday 20 July 2015 Braintree & Witham Times
Jeremy Walker has become the third player to have followed Danny Cowley from Concord Rangers to Braintree Town.
The 22-year-old Australian right-back has followed in the footsteps of Matt Fry and Taylor Miles in linking up with their former manager after he took over the reins at the Iron.
Walker has played in a few of Braintree’s pre-season games, including their 2-1 win against League One new boys Southend United on Friday and Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Thurlow Nunn League side Stanway Rovers.
And Cowley is pleased to have him on board permanently.
He said: Jez (Walker) has signed.
“He’s someone who was with us all last year at Concord.
“He’s come over from Australia and is an under-23 international with them.Share article
“He’s a good player who got a bit of stick from crowds last year due to long flowing hair.
“But the Aussies are very competitive, just like England have been finding out in the cricket.”
